Bad A/C clutch bearing
Hey everyone,
I'm new to this forum so I would like to say hi. Unfortunately I have a problem with my truck. The bearing has gone bad in the compressor clutch. I have the shop manual and I see how to remove the clutch, but I don't see a bearing in the exploded view of the parts. Parts stores don't seem to have a part number for a replacement clutch/pully assembly because they claim it's too new of a vehicle and Dodge isn't letting aftermarket companies make parts or something. Has anyone had this problem before? I was thinking of taking the clutch/pulley off and bringing it to my mechanic or a machine shop to see if they could replace the bearing. I'm about positive it's the pulley idle bearing, because when I turn on the A/C and the pump spins, the noise is gone. I thought I had a bad power steering pump at first.
I searched and didn't find anything on this, so if I missed something, sorry for the repost and I would be appreciative if someone could point me to the thread. Thanks.

I cant think of a time when we have ever replaced the bearing. Its always been a whole new clutch...and a lot of times even a new compressor.
We have replaced a lot of clutches only to have them come back shortly because the compressor failed.
Be sure your compressor is in TOP condition before you replace the clutch.

Yes, I found out the hard way. The bearing in the pulley can't be replaced, it's crimped into the pulley. Anyway, a replacement bearing was gong to cost $80 anyway, so I got a whole new clutch assy. Oh, and surprise, they gave me the wrong one. They gave me a 7 grove pulley and I only needed the 6 groove, seems to be working just fine though. I'm back on the road so I'll keep an eye out for the compressor to go next. Gotta love these fine american cars.
