Default oil........

Due for my first oil change on my 2500 Ram 5.7. I'm considering synth. oil, but Mobil 1 was priced under 10 bucks canadian for 1 lt, quaker state, castrol, ect were not much cheaper, I have allways used good old fashioned oil and changed it every 5000 Km or when it's dirty.

Not including the filter, six lt of oil is going to cost 60 bucks, so, is it worth it to run syn oil?
And if any one is in Montana, how much is mobil 1 per quart?, I may do a road trip for cheaper oil, even with the exchange rate...

Hey, yeah I know the price of oil is not getting any cheaper but I just bought Mobil 1 at Walmart in BC and it went for 8.09 per litre for the 5w20 Syn. you can use whatever you want in your truck but it all comes down to if you want it to last, you lease your truck? don't bother, flip your truck every 2 years? don't bother but if you plan on keeping it for the long run you gotta spend the cash.

The most important part is changing it. If you keep up with a regular schedule dino oil if fine. I prefer synthetic and run it in mine. It all comes down to preference. Synthetic will make it last longer, but how much longer? Who knows. I've seen plenty of trucks with 200K+ miles with dino oil running in it. It just had a regular oil change schedule.

Can you go longer betwean oil changes with synthetic oil? I own my truck and I have every intention of getting as much life out of this rig that I can.
I have heard you can get better mileage/performance running syntetic oil, but if you still have to change it every 5000 KM, thats a lot of money going ou the oil pan.

it may be a bunch of crap but i was told to run regular oil under 10k, or it could cause your engine not to break in very good, but this comes from the same guy that says a k&n filter is also a bad thing.....who knows????

I haven't bought any Mobile 1 for my truck yet, but when I had a VW Passat (month ago)I used to put syn in it. It was 4.89/qt for Mobile 1 at Checker Auto. Wasn't bad for a 1.8T that only held 4 qts. That is in Great Falls, MT.

Conventional wisdom is that sythetic oil is to "slippery" to allow the rings to seat properly, but many German cars come with Mobile 1 straight from the factory, so who knows. I'm planning on putting in more dino at 3k and then switching to sythetic at 6k. Does it help? Eh, won't hurt. Hell, my oil changes on my sportbikes cost me about $70 and I do that every 2k.

Ten bucks for mobil one ( lt ) here at Cnd tire in Calgary, even with the exchange rate, it's cheaper for me to drive down to Great Falls in 3/4 ton truck, load up as much oil and filters I can, have a mimi holiday and head back to the over priced great white north...the Hemi takes 6.6 Lt of oil and a dodge dealer quoted me 275.00 for a oil change if I went with synthetic oil..

I had Mobil 1 put in my new 2500 Hemi at 1200 miles. I run synthetic in all of my vehicles. My S4 came from Germany with synthetic in it.(S4 holds 12 quarts!$$).... Its a $40K truck, pay the extra $$ and put synthetic in it now. Synthetic is better for cold starts as well as hot temps. There really is'nt a good case for crude oil except its cheaper.
