Thinking of buyin Chevy

OK, dude, dont worry, i'll talk ya through this. First, step away from the crack pipe. Now dunk yer head in the sink, full of water and ice of course. Now, do you ever go off-road? Cause if you do it once, you can kiss the cv joints in that chebby goodbye, do it twice and there go the ball joints. I work in the oilpatch in Alberta and we run the new chebbies, nicest truck on the highway, ON THE HIGHWAY. Once you take it off the highway, they might as well go to auction. I work a 9 on, 5 off shift and the first place I go, when on days off, is the local Garbage Made Cheap dealer to get my truck worked on. The most common thing we found is, front ends and cv joints. We have been having a rash of tranny lines, popping off the rad and thus taking the transmission out. Unless your lucky and tranny fluid hits the exhaust and fills the cab with smoke. I thought it would be a good idea to shut er down and that saved the tranny, lol. I have 74,000 km on this truck, approx 46,000 miles and it has had 3 transmission, 3 transfer cases, a dozen cv joints, just about to get it second set of ball joints and one new exhaust. Thats the major stuff. 3 air conditioning pumps, they are mounted at the bottom of the engine on the 6.0L. I could rant for another page about the problems with these trucks. Another guy at work, put $15,000, after warranty was up. NOT tough trucks. Hope this gives you a small glimmer of what yer looking at getting yourself into, dude.

Actually, Cunard, I am 7 hours south east of Ft. McMurray. You can just about afford to live here, lmao. Good to see other Albertans though.

You got that right, the money is up there, along with 75% population of Newfoundland, lol. I was thinkin about transfering up there, but, I don't like the idea of selling the "family jewels" to buy a two bedroom shed, ya know.
I haven't seen anybody mention crashes yet. I saw one a couple of years ago that rolled. The roof was about level with the hood. Didn't hold up to well in a roll-over. I think they all look to prissy and plastic. I don't think they would hold through as much as I've put my 1500 qc through in the year I've owned it. Go Dodge!!
To the defense of GM..
My wife rolled a 2002 Trailblazer about a year and a half ago. One of my daughters (9 at the time) and a friend of hers was in the SUV at the time with my wife. She lost control of the blazer doing about 55-60, flipped 2.5 times (side over side) and landed on the driver side window. The airbags did not deploy because the impact of the crash was from the side. both doors on the passenger side (directly above them at the time) were not in a state to be opened. The cargo door window in the back was busted out and they were able to walk out from the rear. A few scrapes and bruises and that was it. Although the vehicle was totalled, the cabin was still intact! Luckily my wife, child and her friend walked away. Because of this, after our insurance company paid for the total, we purchased a 04 Envoy new and haven't turned back since.
Not necessarily a Silverado story but GM to say the least. Like I said before, I have a Ram that I would take in a "heartbeat"
over Chevy anyday but our Trailblazer and Envoy were/have been great.

I thought this thread may get a good response and thanks to all of you for sounding off. I think it all boils down to if I am ready to get an SUV instead of a truck. I love my ram and it isn't even 4X4. The undeniable fact is that the new 07 Avalanche is a suburban with the rear glass removed. I will admit that that color is pretty awesome though. Thanks to all of you for your input and stories, I hope that you all voted on the poll regarding Dodge putting out a SUT like the Avalanche. I think it would be awesome as long as they built it off the Ram and not the Durango. I will keep checking this thread as long as you all still have feedback. Thanks again --Kevin
