Are HID's and Projectors the same?
I have been looking into getting some Projector headlights and ran across these on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03...QQcmdZViewItem
I did a search here, and found out that true HID's are illegal if they are not factory installed because of the auto-leveler not being in them. Will these fall under the same principle? The ad says they are D.O.T. approved, but I would rather check that out first.
Thanks,
Chris

Projectors are the optical lens a HID system uses to focus the light. All high end HID systems use a projector in each light housing to focus and cutoff the high output light the HID bulb behind the projector is producing. Some cars have projector headlights to magnify their standard bulb. These are not HID or Xennon lights. You can use projectors in your truck as long as there isnt a HID system behind the projectors. With out a HID system, its more of a look thing than function.
