horsepower specs
hi, i'm new to the third gen rams. i just recently traded my 2000 for an 05. i'm under the impression that there are two power ratings of the hemi. one of 240 and one with 345. am i right? and if so how can i tell. which letter is it in the vin and what letter would it be for either. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
your partially right. one engine is rated at 245 and one is rated at 345. however, the 245 rated engine is not a hemi. its the 4.7L the Hemi is rated at 345 and its the 5.7.
as for your question about the letter of the vin i have no idea but i can help you tell which engine your truck has. if its a 2500 with a gasoline engine then its a hemi. if its a 1500 then it should (unless its been debadged) have a hemi emblem on the front fender behind the headlights. the easiet way to tell would be to look at your window sticker (assuming you bought it from a dealer and not private party but either way the owner you bought it from should have kept the original window sticker in the glove box or console or something) or to just pop the hood and look. there should be a big black resonator box on top of the engine (assuming that it has not had any mods done which require this to be removed) if you have a 4.7 it will say 4.7 magnum on the black box. if you have a hemi it will say 5.7 hemi on the black box. hope this helps enjoy your new truck.

thanks Johndcjr1989. i was thinking that there was a tuned down version of the hemi and that it only had 245 horses. that's a relief. i do have a hemi and now know that it does have the 345 horses. thanks again.
if you are referring to the chargers then im not sure about the regular versions but on dodges website it says the daytona chargers are rated at 350 instead of 345. it varies from vehicle to vehicle. i remember when the magnums came out they were rated at 340 with the hemi. i thought the chargers were rated at 345 for the r/t and 350 for the daytona but im not sure.
nope your right i just looked on dodges site and the r/t chargers are rated at 340 but the daytonas are 350.

I'm wondering if they messed up your window sticker when they sold it to you. Carmax did that to me, said it had a 245 hp engine and the first thought I had after looking under the hood was BULLSH!T but kept my mouth shut.
