75000 Ford jobs to be axed.......?
As all these large corporations keep merging into larger corporations that start looking for the next merger; is there anyone else that is very concerned about consumer choice and how very monochrome our options are getting?

Saber in one sense you're right. I am a registered democrat. But I do not vote along party lines, I vote for the PERSON, Not the PARTY.

That's good to know, as I think most people know anymore either party doesn't represent the people voting for them. Which is sad, but that's left for another topic. Give it time we will develop an alternative energy source that will meet the needs of the people consuming it. Until then we have to rely on "old reliable" (oil) to get us by. Hopefully someone somewhere is devising a way to meet future energy demands, without the use of oil. I've tried, and failed about 2 years ago I had an investment firm looking into starting a Bio-diesel plant close to my home town. The problem I ran into was the red tape involved in starting up a project such as that. They wanted at least 60% of the fuel to be oil based, and I said what's the point in getting an alternative fuel if it's going to cost pretty close to 2.50 a gallon, and still use oil? Diesel engines will burn just about anything, which is the reason it was invented anyway Rudolf Diesel wanted people who had his engine to GROW their own fuel. The first prototype ran peanut oil.

Very interesting about the peanut oil, didn't know that either. Who was insisting that 60% come from dino bones? I discussed doing that with an uncle who is a commercial finance banker, but he wouln't even get past the first discussion because he said the oil guys would play really dirty.

It was the state, and federal stipulations because of emissions. As well as quality of the fuel. Like with regular gasoline, it HAS to meet RON/MON to be a motor fuel. Diesel has a RON/MON of 40, compared to even cheap gasoline which is at 87. Now if you have an old diesel sitting around, you could use old fryer oil, all you have to do is filter it. I'm not ****ting you, I've done it with an old mercedes. It does work, your gas mileage will drop between 3-5mpg of what it was getting before. But since it's virtually free, I can live with that.
Anyone who has ever touched, smelled, or worked with diesel fuel will tell you it's a filthy fuel. I wouldn't try the fry oil trick on say a new dodge ram without replacing the injectors to ones that are designed for bio-fuel, as well as changing the glow plugs. Ones from the factory are made to inject oil based diesel fuel. Another reason state and feds mandated 60oil/40bio or 70oil/30bio (manufactures choice) in making bio-diesel fuel.
The more you look into that little project the more you'll see that there really isn't a point to it since you're just making a "hybrid" fuel that will virtually cost close to the same as regular fuel. Why I backed out and said I'm not going to do it, because I'm not solving a problem. Really not much to do with the oil companys "keeping the man down" as it is to meet state and federal fuel requirements.
