Default New Member and Trouble Code Question

Just found this form. Great place! Hopefully someone can help me. I bought an '04 Ram 1500 4X4 Off Road with a Hemi. The engine light has came on twice now. After the first reset my mechanic told me it was ".....insufficient airflow across the EGR." He said that surprised him as he'd never heard of that. He reset it and said drive it and see what happens. Coming home today it came on again. Performance wise and mileage wise the truck runs the same as it always has.....no noted issues after the light comes on. Any ideas on this?

CommonMan---Welcome to the forum!!!

If you can post the actual DTC code that would be a lot easier to help. There are 5 different DTC codes that pertain directly to the EGR. I can only guess at this point that you'll most likely end up replacing the EGR Valve, but to be safe, the correct code needs to be read. It should come up on the odometer window when you turn the key on

Nah man................just don't turn it on once.
What you gotta' do, is cycle the on/off for three times and on the last time leave it in the On position.
Don't turn the key all the way to start it up 3 times, just turn the key so the dash lights all come on.
When you do this 3 times, you can read a code in the oddometer display, if there's one to read.
If no code, you will get all -----------'s then a DONE message.
Hope this helps?
Al.

I did that. And nothing! It just displayed the mileage. No "DTS Code, no - - - - - / Done", nothing. I remember with my old Ramcharger it would flash the check engine light like an SOS message when you turned the key 3 times and tried it even before I got on here. Still nothing. I've done everything but stand on my head while turning the key 3 times. Still nothing. Now I'm really curious.
