CAI installed - klunking noise
2006 Ramd 1500 HEMI
Just installed AEM CAI.
I now hear a sinlge klunk sound at around 25-35 mph.
It was probably there before but I never heard it.
It seems to happen when I stop accel and start cruising.
This does not seem to be the HEMI tick or EGR noise people talke about.
I havent really had a chance to look at it yet.
Is this the MDS kicking in?
ANyone??
Thanks

RE: CAI installed - klunking noise
Is the motor moving causing the CAI to move around, and contact something under the hood? I'd look for anything that looks like it has been rubbing on other components around the CAI. My CAI was a ebay one, and I had to fabricate some ties/holders so that the intake tube was supported.

RE: CAI installed - klunking noise
The CAI is all tight and does not seem to rub or hit.
If I accel hard (which should cause the most engine movement) there is no noise.
I am pretty sure it is the MDS now as well.
I drove around in tow/haul and did not have any occurance of the noise.
I need to change muffler so I can actually hear my engine.
Then I get to hear the craptastic MDS.
thanks

RE: CAI installed - klunking noise
intsalling exhaust on an MDS Hemi makes the noise really obvious... it almost sounds like you sjifted gears and then the engine note gets really really low and deep. If you do not mind it is no biggie... just be warned your stock exhaust was specifically tuned so you would not hear the MDS removing it makes it really really obvious.
