Default cleaning engine

I was following a guy on a dirt road a little while back and as a result it is very dusty under my hood. I want to spray engine cleaner and rinse it off, is there anywhere that I need to avoid or cover under there when spraying water? I will not use a pressure washer, just a hose.

Default No engine cleaner needed..

If its just dusty, you dont need engine cleaner. Its too harsh. Just take a roll of paper towels and some watered down "Fantastic" and clean each part. Spraying water on a engine should only be done as a last resort.

Actually, as long as you still have the stock airbox, you'll be fine spraying it down. I've got 3 yrs experience detailing at a dealership, and we always clean the engines with degreaser and a power washer. Just make sure not to get too close to blow off a hose or harm parts. Since your engine is just dusty, a simple sweeping motion would get rid of all of the dust. If you do have a CAI, or an open air fliter element, it's best to remove the filter and completely plug the intake tube to prevent your filter from getting wet and prevent any water from getting in the intake.
