I've read around here that some of the earlier 3rd gen's will only rev up to 3900 or 4000 when you are in Park. As for when you are in gear or neutral, I can't vouch for that but I have seen the same on my 04.
Yep me too.
On my 03, you can only rev it to about 4000 max while in park.
However, It's not a good thing to do I'm led to believe, to rev your engine while under no load.
Something about rotating masses and G forces etc?

When I'd floor my 05' HEMI from a dead stop it would usually hit around 5500+/- and just reving it in nuetral or parked to show off my exhaust a little it will hit roughly 3500-4000rpm before I back off my foot to let it come back down. There's really no need to go over that because for the exhaustt on my truck hits every tone up to that rpm range and doesn't sound good after that range. Plus I've also heard that its not good for the engine to rev that high or higher for a long period of time too so Ive never tested it out really, dont want to blow anything

The 4000rpm rev limit in park or neutral is normal. It's to help keep the engine from unnesseccary RPM's when there is no load present, just like what abarmby was talking about. The shift point when in gear should be 5700 RPM stock. If you put your truck in a manual gear, and floor it, the truck should get up to the rev limiter and hold there.... got to love throttle by wire!!
yeap same for me in my 03' hemi. Park or neutral you cant get above 4 grand. Rev it out and you get around 5700-5800. Its a good idea so you dont damage anything accidentally in park or neutral with no load on the engine.
