It's to allow you to make it in your house or wherever while the truck provides you some light. If you don't like it just turn off the lights before you turn off the key and it wont happen.

I've noticed mine doing that sometimes. I always thought it was just me. I usually turn them off before the ignition so it doesn't happen to often. At least I know it's now a quirck of my truck.

Like was said, it's not a quirk... it's a feature. The Dodge trucks do it, Jeeps function the same way (and I'm not sure of any other vehicles). But when I park somewhere at night, I like to have the extra light as I'm walking away from the truck, so I purposely turn the switch after turning the key. Now all I wish is that there was a way to turn the headlights on when approaching the truck, rather than just flashing my parking lights at me.

If you turn the truck off before you turn the lights off, they stay on, just flip the switch back to on then off and that'll kill 'em.

You should be able to disable that feature by reading your owner's manual.

To solve the problem, turn your headlights off prior to removing the key or opening your door.
