Is the JL Audio custom fit for the truck? Is it self powered? What is the model # if so? Sounds worth looking into.

I'd like the part # for this too, because everything I find requires me to take out the tray for both driver's side and passenger side. I would love a 10" sub enclosure under just the driver's side rear seat - my son's car seat is above that and it's waisted space for me.

Can you please provide a link and any other tips you can think of regarding putting this box in your truck?

Thanks.

Derek,

I would be interested in hearing how it turns out. I received the Kicker ZX700.5 and did not realize how big it was. 20+". It will not fit under the front seat. I am going back to 2 amps but will still plan to buy the custom box for the rear seat unless I hear good things about yours.

Let me know if you dont mind.

Thanks,

Rod
Yes, I went with two amps for space reasons, the smaller sub amp will go under the driver side rear seat and the larger 4 channel will go under the larger rear passenger seat. I cut out the rear wall insulation to give me another inch of room to push the amp back, which allows me to keep the metal fold out trays - a requirement I had. The five channel is huge, yes. Even the 4 channel will not fit under a front seat, and if you move the seat forward or back at all, the amp gets exposed to thieves. With the sub 'hidden' under the front console, and the amps and wiring hidden under the rear seats, everything should be out of view and protected. My only concern is having enough airspace. However, the Kickers have built in fans that cool sideways, so I think the lack of top clearance will not be an issue.

I am also going with the JL Audio 6.5 components for the doors, front and rear.

I should be able to get the sub amp in the truck and connected this weekend. The 4 channel amp will have to wait till the spring since I don't have the JL Audios yet, and its getting cold here in the North East to work on it anymore. But if I can get the sub system working, at least I know the mounting scheme works.

Give me a day to find out the part number for the box I used. I think that JL has it in there website, but I'll look into my files to see what the number was. the box does not come with the amp, I just installed a 600 watt rocford mono amp under my drivers seat and ran the wires under the carpet to the box. It sits under the longer seat and you can bring the seat to the full flat position without a problem. The only thing is the the longer metal tray has to be removed. I am able to fit my son's car seat on that same side with out any clearance problems. I'll get back to you guys tommorow with the info.

Default complete stereo in 04 qc

Here are a few pics of a system that BOOMS!

I mounted a planet audio 600W amp under the drivers seat. This was easily done by unbolting the entire front seat assembly, 4 bolts, and tilting it to the back seat area. I then ran all the wires under the carpet between the head unit and amp. I used the existing speaker wires in the doors because they are a bitch to thread and I did not want any exposed wires. The subwoofer is a 10" in a 2 cuft box. I built it to sit on the drive shaft tunnel and is fully removable. I looked at the under the backseat options and they all suck! I built the box so that the center console in the front can be flipped up. The only sacrifice is the cup holders in the back. I used clarion pro audio speakers to replace the stock in the doors. I run the fronts and sub off the amp and the rear doors off the deck. For a minimal install I am and friends are thouroughly impressed. NOTE: get a good amp.

And I have to agree. I am sure this setup works, but it looks like this might be your first attempt at a stereo install. The sub box workmanship needs some improvement, and the placement and attachment method had little thought. If you were looking to improve the bass, than it works. But in the future, try to think about how it will look when you show it off, and how it will NOT look to thieves.

While the underseat boxes may 'suck' in your mind, they are well hidden, have fine craftsmanship, and perform well.

To clarify, I built it to sound good without using the under seat storage, those are full of straps and hitches, etc. I also did not want it permanent, hence the holdowns. And in about 15 seconds the box is out and the rear seat up and metal deck extended. Base likes volume, and at 2 cubes, is there any other way to do it?

I also see that they have a new front-seat center-mount enclosure with a 13w3 (13.5") subwoofer enclosed. It is obviously not as "hidden", but I bet is hits a little lower on the frequency range. You could wire it in WITH the under-the-seat rear enclosure, too.
