i would agree in saying that i trust the manual shift more then the electronic, plus its cooler to reach down and shift it yourself more then it is to turn a **** on the dash...

I have the shifter on the floor, and have used it several times. I prefer it over the electric style version, because of reliability.

Floor here. I like being able to "feel" it lock in. I use 4WD about 3 times a week(Dad has a pretty wicked driveway).
My father-in-law has a GMC Jimmy with the "****" and he cant get to go into 4LO half the time and when its really cold 4WD wont lock at all. And when do you need 4WD?
Up here in NY you almost need 4WD.

I have the floor shifter. As said before, just something cool about pulling the lever, and I feel a lot more comfortable in the reliability of the manual (and the ability to fix it if something buggers up).

The last Ram 1500 that has the manual transfer case (floor shifter) is the 2005 model. It is still offered on new 2500 and 3500 models.

I've had both, my 99 had a floor shifter and my 06 has the ****. I use the four wheel drive regularly on the family farm and hunting, never had any problems with either one. If I had to pick one I would probably pick the floor shifter, but it's a lot easier to get the 06 into 4 low with the ****!

I have the manual shifter, but don't use it that often other than to engage it to keep everything lubed and turned. I did have a Ford Ranger 4X4 with the electric shifter and the servo would always freeze up in the winter. I think after time they get moisure in them and will evenually stick. I had to engage it every day or two to keep it from sticking. Should have replced it, but $500 to replace the servo was too much. Since then I would always buy the maual shifter just because there is less to go wrong. My $.02

I am planning to purchase a new Dodge Ram, and will be ordering with electronic shift-on-the-fly. Main reason is that the floor shifter interferes with the front center seating position. We are a family of 5, so I need to maximize every seating position possible. Plus, I've had problems getting my '95 Chevy 4x4 to shift manually. Might just be a Chevy thing for that generation, but nonetheless has led me to want to try something different this time around.

My 06 is 2wd so i'm not cool enough to be in on this discussion for the 3rd gens but my lifted 98 ram has the floor shift and I like it. My moms durango has the electronic shift and it has never had any problems but I just feel more like a manly man when I shift it on the floor haha. I do like the convenience of the electronic shift though.

Floor shift on my '05. Since I can't drive it anymore right now, I guess it doesn't matter. However, the new F-150 at work has problems all the time with the electronic engagement. I just don't trust them. It's not really a matter of feeling cool, or anything.
