Can one of you powerwagon guys measure the distance between the frame rails where the winch is?
Anyone have the dimensions?
The frame rails are a hair under 34.75 inches apart, however, the winch brackets are 34.125 inches apart since there are bumper mounting flanges between the rails and the winch brackets.

Maybe they say no winch for the 1500's because the winch and mounting bracketry is going to weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 150lbs. and the front springs are going to need to be replaced.

My back up is to fab my own mount. It will be very easy to fabricate the mount for a winch. The only thing keeping me from making one is that I'm going to wait until I have the winch so that I know everything fits in the correct place. And I don't have the cash or need yet for a winch... but its only time until I get one... I have a sneaking suspicion that they would bolt right in from a powerwagon to the 1500 ram.
motorhead426:
Mopar has the complete kit that should bolt right up to your '05 2500 QC 4x4...
It's not gonna be cheap though.
I don't think the '06 1500's gonna fit unless it's the MegaCab (2500 chassis).

the front mount hitch is not all that costly only $167 from draw tite. i helped my buddy do his on his superduty it was easy and you cant even see it in the gap of the bumper and to make a receiver to hold the winch isnt hard and not too pricy.

A 140lb winch is not something I'd like to to try stuffing into a receiver hitch.

JRH_PowerWagon_06, thanks for the numbers. I have a 1500, not a 2500. I'm going to measure the frame rails today at lunch (if I remember). I'm not too thrilled about the front reciever either, but the whole mount in the rear would be a nice option in some cases. When ever I get stuck, I'm usually wanting to go backwards anyway, hahaha. I'm not too worried about the weight of the hitch, becuase it has to weigh a lot less than a snow plow set up. I wonder what the front torsion bars are rated at? Anyway, thanks again for the info!

My winch/craddle weighs in at just over 100 lb's. The hitch is another 30 or so. Any man that can't lug 100 lb's from front to rear needs to turn in his man card asap. As for the front end not handling it, it isn't an issue at all. I run around with mine on nearly all the time and have noticed zero difference.
Mount it, enjoy it.

I don't think the weight will be an issue either, but remember that the Powerwagon has a 12000lb winch vs. your 9000lb? Since there is no difference in size with warns larger winches, I'll probably go with either their 15000lb or 16500lb winch... Why you ask? Because I can, hehehe.

Well you may want to look at warn's website.

I was looking at the winch control for my power wagon and noticed they had a hidden kit for 1500 02-04 Its in the neighborhood of 250 dollars. I just wanted you to know it may work on an 06 I am not for sure but its worth a shot. It says it uses factory mounting holes and such. Just thought. Best of luck.

Too bad Warn's hidden winch mount is only rated for winches up to 9000lb.
