Install limited-slip in new 06Hemi 1500 4x2
I want to have a limited-slip differential installed in place of the standard differential in my 06Hemi1500 4x2. Local Dodge parts department quoted a $645.00 for factory limited-slip differential....will take about 5 hours at $60.00 an hour according to service manager. Service manager stated they had a very competent mechanic that could do it having 10 years experience.
Should I be apprehensive swapping the differential in my 06 with 5000 miles? Many thanks for your responses.

hey whats up wow u posted this just in time i just put a limited slip dif in my truck man i love this thing its great going around truns and in wet weather its amazing i just all around love it ok well heres the story im a mechanic at a shop in new jersey and the dif by its self cost me 420 plus 50 for the gears the company that makes it is AUBURN and its a high performance limited slip dif for the truck. it took one of the guys at my shop the most experenced one who had about 12 years as a mechanic 2 hours i would have done it myself but im only 17 and am just learning about rears and how they work but ill tell you its way worth it pm me if u have any more questions
The pricing on the parts you received from the dealer is about what I got from the local dealer out here in Cali. The maintenance quote I received was $1100 though...OUCH!!! The Auburn is about $350 at this site: http://rearendparts.com/xcart/catalog/542070-p-717.html . I got this from this post: https://dodgeforum.com/m_602643/mpag.../tm.htm#602890 . Keep us posted on what you do. I am trying to do the jobs that will keep my warranty intact, but for $1100 Labor...I don't know. I'm gonna price around on that and probably go with the Auburn. Hope this post helped at least alittle.

I've heard good things about auburn, it is supposed to be of higher quality than the factory lsd. I have the factory lsd, and it has worked great for the 2500 miles on my truck. The only downside to the factory lsd is that some people have had problems with the clip breaking, which could cause rear end damage.
Well, I'm getting my LSD done tomorrow for $575 total (Parts and labor). That will be with using my gears and putting in the Auburn. Will let you know how it goes. Just getting tired of one wheel spinning when it's wet (and rainy season is here).
My dodge dealership service manager told me today that I can furnish the Auburn lsd part and his department would install it at $65.00 an hour. Will not void the Dodge factory warranty on truck rearend; however, there will only be whatever warrranty Auburn has on the lsd.

Had my assembly replace with the Auburn yesterday. The install (if done by a good shop) should only take 2 hours not the 5 the dealer charges. Install went good and the truck actually feels better when I am starting off in a turn. With the stock set up starting off in a turn felt almost clunky (if that's a word). Now it's smooth. Shop actually said the Auburn is much better than the stock part. Said the stock set up tends to break clutches inside where the Auburn has a great record.
Gordo,
Good for you. Did you provide the Auburn or did the shop order it for you? And, were any additional parts necessary for the change from factory to Auburn, like a ring, etc. since you kept your factory gears?
Thanks, you've sold me.

Yep..................putting in an Auburn, will also stop you having to deal with the DREADED C CLIP problem that the factory LSD's have and is MORE common than Dodge like to admitt!
