Anyone get a Remote starter put on an 03??
I saw one of those while I was shopping for remote starts today. Pretty sweet setup and technology
they have now. Didnt need all that just needed a remote start/keyless entry and starter kill.

Yeah that is all I really need as well, but me being so damn stubborn will probably end up dishing out the rediculous ammounts of money for the alarm/ remote start.. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff! lol

well my truck is an 03' and the guy at dodge told me that if i need a key cut they had to do it because there is a code that needs to be programmed for it.

They didnt put them in the keys in 2003, started in 2004. Turns out I was right and didnt need the module so I got a $50 credit back.

and i was told that those alarm start combos with the screen on the remote break really easy. and it cost $150 to replace them. so i went with a two way remote which lights up and beeps to tell me if it is working or not. when i lock it it beeps twice and unlock it it beeps once. when i start it it beeps once and a couple times i think if it don't start.

It should be a black key.. only the Jeeps got the grey key.. My buddy got a remote starter put on his truck, nothing needed to be done with the key, but his was an 02, and did not come factory with auto door locks, which was a standard option on the 03 + rams.. I am looking forward to getting one installed on mine, it is really a great option and something that would be wonderful in the climate that I live in.. 110+ in the summer, and down below freezing in the winter..

I have a Viper two way pager and it only cost me $400 installed . I have a 03 hemi QC and this system did not need an extra key. My keys do not have a chip in them. I am not sure why he asked for the extra key if it does not have a chip. The purpose behind the extra key ,only if it has a chip, is to use it with the remote starters ECU . It goes inbeded in the unit so that your trucks ECU will have that chips frequence to read when you hit the remote start. In order for a vehicle , with a chip, to start it needs to sence your keys code before it permits the ecu to send the current to the starter. That is as simple as I can explane it. My alarm system also has the remote start with it and did not need the extra interfaze. My advice is you ask the installer to show you where the key is being placed. Just remember it is you right to know. Don't let them give you **** like saying it is not something they can't show you. The truck is yours, the alarm is yours, and the key is yours. So have them show it to you and where it will be installed . I say this cause I have installed these remotes my self for some time and have not yet come across a system that needs a key for a non- chiped -ignition vehicle. Do youself a favor and find out first if it has a chip or not . If it doesn't go to another shop and ask before you get one installed . Spend the extra dogh on the Viper or audiovox two waypager alarm and remote start in one . They have much more range (up to 1500') and you can get rid of the stock keyless entrypod and have one unit for both alarm and remote start. Good luck and hope you resolve this. Pm me if you have any questions.
I hate for this to be my first post but I'm guessing from the thread that an 06' remote start system found on the 'Bay such as this one 250053224391 (Ebay Item number) will not work with 02-05 models?
