They charged me for a interface module. Didnt think I needed any additional parts because of the lack of the chip in the key. Anyone have one installed on this yr?

 

i thoguht everything after like 2002 had a chip in the key?? Im getting mine put in today and i know i needed one, but mines a 2005

 

Im getting mine installed on november 20th and i needed the chip for the power door locks and starter to work at the same time it costed me 75 bucks for the modual i think and another 50 to install it. all together the two way alarm starter combo it costed 620 bucks after installation. mines an 03 and its got the wierd computer thing for the door locks.

 

You need it for the door locks. On a ram each door operates on its power line. So in theory a ram has 4 lock switches instead of 1.

 

They didnt put them in the keys in 2003, started in 2004. Turns out I was right and didnt need the module so I got a $50 credit back.

 

well my truck is an 03' and the guy at dodge told me that if i need a key cut they had to do it because there is a code that needs to be programmed for it.

 

Is it a grey key or black key?

 

It should be a black key.. only the Jeeps got the grey key.. My buddy got a remote starter put on his truck, nothing needed to be done with the key, but his was an 02, and did not come factory with auto door locks, which was a standard option on the 03 + rams.. I am looking forward to getting one installed on mine, it is really a great option and something that would be wonderful in the climate that I live in.. 110+ in the summer, and down below freezing in the winter..

 

I was told that the black key doesnt have a chip in it and the grey one does. I have the black key
and they installed the remote start today without any other parts and it is working just fine. The
starter kill works, power locks work. Just wish it would beep when I lock it but I'll get over that.

 

Yeah my buddy has a screen that is attached to his key chain, and although the horn doesnt sound when he locks and unlocks the truck, the hand held key chain beeps when he locks and unlocks the truck.. It also show a picture on the screen that has a image of a padlock pop up when it is locked, and also shows a picture of an unlocked padlock when the truck alarm is disabled.. Let me straighten this out.. His is an alarm and a remote start combined just so there's no confusion. It's a sweet set-up but will set you back about $650.00 ...
