Default New Exhaust question

Hi guys sorry if this topic has been done to death, I searched but couldn't really find what I was looking for. I'm in search for an aftermarket cat back exhaust system for my 03 1500, hemi, reg cab, short bed. I am looking for something that will give it a good solid tone but won't become an annoyance. The flowmaster website says that a 50 series HD would be recommended, is anyone familiar with that model. Any info would be appriciated. TIA

Dont know if this will help or not... but here is mine. Link

Its not a catback 'kit' .. i just bought the muffler and tips and had them installed. It is a flowmaster super 40 series dual 2.5" in/out, and magnaflow tips.

Hey Tapout,

I have only used Flowmaster 50 series (3 chamber) mufflers. Personally, I think the 40 series are too loud plus I like to listen to the radio when I drive, not the droan of a loud exhaust. Its tireing and harmful to your hearing in the long run.

I put the 50 series on my 95 Impala SS and it woke the car up, gave it a nice hot rod rumble without the interior noise. My '97 GMC Sierra that my daughter drives, currently has a Flowmaster 50 series on it. Makes the v-6 sound like a v-8.

My 2006 Hemi equipped Quad Cab now has a 50 series on it. It is factory quite at idle and sounds very healthy when you give the gas. Interior noise is very acceptable. I kept the front resonator and removed the rear one.

On the '06 you do hear the MDS kick in. More noticable at 40 mph than at 70mph.

Yeah I think i'm going with the 50 series, becuase like you I like to listen to music and want to be able to not have the sound there if I don't want it. How much louder than stock does it make it? Also do you notice any improvments since putting it on. Thanks again

Not to thread steal, hopefully the original poster is wondering the same thing, I also have an 03 reg cab, but with the 4.7, and am wondering what size is the stock muffler as far as in/out, location, and overall muffler shape. I am looking to do a muffler swap, and put on a tip coming out in the stock location but have been waiting as I don't know exactly what to order.

I got a super 40 dual out, and it ROCKS Hard. Its hard to tell the sound over internet clips; best if you can find someone you can listen to in person.

The super 40 FM, is suppose to resonate a little less than the regular 40. You may look at it. I love mine. The 50 series is suppose to be less loud. I was afraid i was gonna invest money in something and not be that far from the stock.

Super 40 is perfect. It is semi loud in the cab when cruising at 70mph, but not where you can't hear the radio. Its not like you have to have the radio screaming to hear it.

Just wanted to chime that in. In fact, the more i drive mine, the louder i want it to be. You just get use to it.

3" in and out.

i just cut my tail pipe off from about 6 inches after the stock muffler (very clean look) and have a cut out on the way. with a flip of a switch i can rumble like a race car or disappear in traffic

Tapout,
I haven't really noticed any power improvement with the muffler change. It just sounds healthier when steppin' on the gas peddle.

I had the rear resonator removed and a 4" diameter polished stainless steel exhaust tip put on, exiting in the stock location.

I think you'll be quite happy with this combination.
