Is anyone using AMSOIL on here? Are you happy with the products? Just trying to see what people think and check the market.

 

I switched the engine oil over to Amsoil 5-20 synthetic at 4000 miles.

I replaced the rear end gear oil with Amsoil Severe Gear at 1000 miles.

All of my other vehicles are using Amsoil as well.

I change engine oil every 4000 miles on my trucks and my Acura RL when the engine oil monitor system reads 10% life left.

this is a little off topic but how easy was it for you to bolt on the sts turbo is it a direct bolt on. and how many psi do you run and did you have to do anything to the internals of the engine for it to handle the turbo or change the injectors and stuff like that. and did u have to use anything for tuning for the air to fuel ratio.

I run amsoil in my dakota work truck and one ATV. It is good stuff.

 

What's the regular price per quart an is it full synthetic? What would you guys in the NE region recomend weight wize in this oil for the four season weather? Any distributors in the NE tristate area?

 

Amsoil gear oils are very good. I've used them and have been amazed at the reduction in metal particles on the drain magnets--easily 3/4 to 2/3 LESS than Mobil1, Valvoline, or other synthetic gear oils I've used--still on my 1st run of Royal Purple Maxgear. The motor oil is a mixed bag IMHO. Only their premier oils are PAO/Group IV basestock (ie, true/full synthetic) by their own admission. Unfortunately, their XL 5W20 is NOT considered one of their "premier" oils. Generally, any of the quality SM/GF-4 rated 5W20 oils--dino or syn--will work just as well, at less cost, and more easily available. But, oil is like a religion or spark plugs to some folks. Hence, as long as it's SM/GF-4, and you feel good about, have OCIs in the 3k-6k mi, range, go for it. If you're interested in pushing longer OCIs or are in the extreme service category, then you should calibrate whatever oil you use with a few used oil analyses (UOAs) just to make sure that you're engine feels as good on the inside as you do on the outside. :-)

BTW, if you're really interested in reading some passionate and smart folks opine about oil, check out the bobistheoilguy.com website. It's scary reading not for the faint of heart, but very educational and enlightening. Over there, for example, the current raging debate is just how pure of a synthetic is Mobil1 EP. That debate was started when a lab ran 1 sample through a gas chromatograph and got some interesting results.

If you are close to wyoming at all in nebraska there is an amsoil dealer in Pine Bluffs. I would just run 5-30. I think you are talking about nebraska when you say NE anyway.. LOL

 

Thanks for all of the feeback. I have been a long time fan, of course it has not always been easy or cheap to get. That is until recently when I found out about the Preferred Customer and Dealer opportunities. I could not resist the opportunity to become an Independent Dealer, especially with such a large market. If only used for the savings on my personal use products it will be well worth it. Of course I will attempt to turn a profit, though that is difficult being on Active Duty in the Navy! Oh well I shall see what happens...........If anyone is interested in the PC or Dealer opportunities just ask.
