Default Exhaust Leak?

Hey guys,
I Bought my 06 QC sport a couple of months ago and I've noticed that when I cruising next to another car at about 1800 rpms my truck sounds as if it has an exhaust leak. I Think it is the MDS kicking in. Anybody know what it is. Thank you.

What mod's have you done? I've also had the same thing after installing a Cold Air Intake. It could be either the CAI sucking in air if it's a constant sound or the damn EGR if it's a single "toosh" vaccum sound.

To fix the EGR you can install an EGR Baffle from 3rdStrike dot biz. I've got one on order to fix this issue and will install it next week.

Yeah I went the flowmaster route and did not like the results with the MDS (I've got an 06 Ram 1500 5.7L w/ MDS). I'm looking at the Aero Turbine 3030XL to replace it instead. Check out aeroexhaust.com

What does it sound like when the MDS kicks in? What did you not like about it? Thanks

From a functional perspective the performance is fine. With the CAI and Flowmaster Dual exhaust my MPG has gone up to just over 17 avg. Could probably go to closer to 18 if I changed my driving habits. Stock I was seeing just under 15 MPG.

From a sound perspective when I had both the flowmaster installed the truck definitely developed a few odd sounds from the resonation here any there but that would be expected. But the thing that I don't like is when the MDS kick in and the engine goes to 4 cylinders which with normal around the town driving is about 40% of the time. Similar to what the reviewers said the MDS should kick in (note this is still stock and I haven't upgraded to the Superchips 3815 unit yet). When the MDS kicks in there is a harmonic change that goes from 8 beats per sec to 4 beats per sec and sounds like a helicopter is going overhead. There's also a noticeable pause inbetween cylinders firing which I can tell is the MDS shutting down 4 of the cylinders.

When I engage the Tow Mode the MDS is disabled the sound is desirable and the EGR valve doesn't make the annoying "toosh" into the CAI either. It's actually more of the sound that I would expect out of a V8 and sounds a lot meatier when driving around town. You also don't hear the constant upshift/downshift when driving in normal mode when the MDS kicks in driving around town. Since the flowmaster cat back system install ran me $325 installed I'm considering this a small financial lesson by not doing enough homework before I run out and install a mod on my truck.

One other thing I should note is that if you tow a boat don't go with a loud exhaust especially for long haul trips. I went up to Lake Berryessa (CA) this weekend to prefish for a tournament and my ears were ringing a bit from the new exhaust. When I go with the Aero Turbine 3030XL I'm definitely going to install the resonator so that the noise in the cab is greatly reduced.

Lesson learned. Once I get the new exhaust installed I'll post my feedback. Same thing when I get the Superchips as well.

The reason I asked about the MDS is that I just signed up to be a supporting vendor here and we are not experiencing much change in exhaust tone with our Zoomers Exhaust System on your same truck. Maybe you'd consider a complete Zoomers Cat-back for your truck. You might know we make a system for the 5.7 Hemi Magnums and Chargers with no complaints of MDS or drone in the cabin. Here are some pictures of the system. System fits 5.7 Quad-Cab... Please call if you're interested in more information. Ron 949-916-3240
