Default 06 Ram in a snow storm!

Just woke up to the first snow storm of the season and sent my wife off in our new 06 2500 4x4 diesel truck. Just wondering what I should do to make this truck handle the best in the snow. Truck is new so tires are not a question, but with the power in the cummins most times on wet pavement the tires break loose without much force on the pedal. Any tips please. Thanks, Chad

Do you have the stock Goodyear Wranglers on them? I heard they're not the greatest. I just bought my 04 & I have the 20" Wranglers on it. I'm going to give them a whirl in the winter & see how they do.

Cheers
Sean

Nope! Michelins on this puppy! We use Michelins at my place of work for the HD trucks and pay loaders and all the operaters love them. We'll see how these are for me this winter.

yah, the GY wrangler's suck in the snow...i tried em for 1 winter and got rid of em that following spring...try throwin some sandbags in the back of your truck, thats what i have always done and it seems to help get around a lil better and this is in a 2wd ram too, just my $.02 worth

You can buy those big water bladders, that fit inside your bed.
Filled up with H20 and they're good for 450kg I believe.
Or, as our friend said earlier, a nice cheap solution is the old sand bags.

just keep it slow.. nothing is good in snow.. and a narrow tire would be best to cut down threw it and get to the pavement.. these trucks are plenty heavy enough to handle it for the most part.. i dont think adding more weight would help.. just more weight to pull up a snow covered hill

Hey Chadg2, how do you start your Diesel in extreme cold weather? someone told me that it has to be connected to an electrical outlet, is this true?

Ummm...try the lil shifter on the floor. You know...4x4 ! I drive mine in 4 wheel drive all the time on wintery roads. This is one of the best driving trucks in bad weather I ever owned. ( 2004 - 1500 4x4 Quad cab )

They call the part your talking about a "Block heater." It keeps the block and oil above freezing temps (not sure exactly how warm), but it makes it easier for that big engine to turn over. Just about all cars sold in Canada are sold with block heaters (so says a Canadian here at work), and we here in the USA, can order them with just about any car or truck... At least Chrysler offers them.

Hey Chadg2, welcome to having a rear-wheel drive truck in WINTER!!! You give it enough gas on dry pavement, the tires are gonna chirp. I've been through a New England winter with my 1500, and all I have to say is...SANDBAGS! Its the poor-man's way to add a little weight in the rear. As for the Michelin's, I didn't have too much trouble with them but keep in mind those tires are all-purpose not a designated snow tire. So my advice is to tell the ol' lady to stay off the gas! Take it easy.
