Default Looking for Mileage

Howdy All,

Hey I was wondering what differences, if any a chip programmed to 87 octane, cat back system and drop in k&n filterwould have on a 2004 4 door 4X4 2500 with a hemi? I'm looking for a little increase in mpg. I want to get in the 14 to 15 mpg range. right now I'm in the 12 mpg range. Any help will be great. I drive like a Grandpa now with a little town and alittle highway. Truck has 26,000 miles. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank You,

Dan

Hi Dan -

I have 1500 Megacab with Hemi which is basically your truck. I got 3.73 rear. I drive like a grandpa myself and can't get more than 12-13 mpg. Used to get 11-11.5 with mixed driving on 87 oct. Now I switched to 89 and it really helped. also I altered my work commute to avoid lights, just stay on a freway with cruise control at no more than 60-62 mph.

You will get better MPG and more HP using 89oct. If you use 87 oct, your computer will retard its timing to reduce knocking and will get less hp. Thats why all Hemi's recomend 89oct.

If you're not running in circumstances that would induce knocking, there would be no difference in mileage from 87 to 92 octane.
