Dodge Durango pop noise

My buddy has an 05 Durango that he bought recently. It makes a pop noise once in a while, seemingly random. Anyone heard of this? and if so, what was the cause?

Not much to go on here. Is the pop coming out of the exhaust, under the hood, out of the drive line, or the suspension? It's possible it's the ball joints, if it's coming from the front suspension.

it does it when stopped at a light so i'd guess its not suspension. it sounds like exhaust to me, but looking to see if these symptoms line up to a common theme.
