I have had several trans rebuilders tell me, Do Not adjust the bands unless it is slipping as by doing so you will wear them out faster. As for how to adjust them, one adjustment place is on the inside of the tranny and the other is outside of it IIRC. If you still want this done have a trans shop do it as if it's not done right you can screw things up. IMO, Just have them change the filter and install the needed new AFT+4 fluid and your all set to go.
Why would tightening the bands to spec cause the tranny to wear out? I fingured the slipping bands causing more heat, killing the fluid, building up varnish, etc killed the tranny. If it were my tranny, it would get band adjustments every 30K miles. The newer trannies adjust on thier own, so the 545-RFE guys don't have to worry about it.
Regardless, you can do it and there is a tightening spec on it. The access is inside after you take the tranny cover off. If you go over to the 2nd Gen forum, you can find all the specs you need, but beware.. the spec is in INCH/POUNDS and not ft/lbs. Someone really messed thier bands and broke one when tightening to the spec they thought was ft/lbs.
