05 Hemi stalls, any advice?
I have a 2005 Ram 1500 4x4 with a Hemi. I have 18,000 miles on it.
About a month ago I started it in the driveway and moved it about 5 feet. The engine stalled out and would not start for about 3 minutes. When it did, there were no lights on in the dash identifying a problem. It ran fine after that.
Last Sunday, I was exiting the freeway and at the stop light it died. It started right up and died again. I restarted it, kept it in neutral and with my foot on the gas it stayed running. Every light I hit it stalled out.
I took it to the dealership and they could not duplicate the problem and found nothing wrong with it.
I did a google search and found that there is an active investigation with the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration). They have been looking at this since November, 2005. Dodge and Chrysler say that is is not a safety concern. I disagree. When I cannot trust my truck to drive my kids in it, there is a major concern.
This past weekend, I pulled out of my driveway, pulled out into the main road and as I accelerated to about 40, the truck shutoff and the steering locked up. I put it into neutral and started it up at about 10mph. Scared the crap out of me!
The dealership has talked to their special tech and they have told me that he has seen this on a few other Rams but really do not know what the fix is. They want to flash the PCM and install a co-pilot on the truck. I don't want them to give me the car back until it is fixed and if they can't I don't want the car back.
Has anyone else had this problem and what advice can you give me?

It is under warranty still. I took it to the dealership the four days ago.
At this point they have replaced the transmission, the transmission filters and the crank sensor. The service manager took it home last night and said that he felt it start to bog out but it did not stall. Obviously the trans was not the issue. They don't know what else to do!
I am nervous to drive this truck.

Tell them to drop the gas tank and check your fuel pump/filter. It sounds like your just not getting any gas or as much gas as what you need to keep the truck running. About a month ago my 05' just died on me as I was heading down the freeway doing about 70. After about 5-20 min of checking everything out (including my shorts) I was tried it once more and it started right up and drove fine for about 5miles till I got to work. I took it down to the dealer and it turned out to be some electrical problem with the pump, something apparently shorted out somehow. Luckly everything was under warranty still.
The dealership had my truck for 4 days and I picked it up last Friday. They replace and out of date transmission filter and a creank sensor.
It ran fine all day on Friday. Saturday morning I ran to get something at the party store a half a mile away. I started my truck and turned out onto the main road. It accelerated to about 30 and hesitated for about 3 seconds and stalled. It restarted and ran fine. When I left the party store it did the same thing.
Needless to say, the dealership now has my truck again for the third time in two weeks!
I am very frustrated and am truly scared to drive my truck. What do I do??????

I wouldnt think it would be fuel,if the truck stalls at idle, the point where the truck is at a minimum for fuel usage. It seems to me that if it was fuel the truck would starve at operating or accelerating speeds where fuel consumption is at the highest demand. I could be wrong though.I would suspect that the electronic throttle control might be the culpret.Shutting off the airat the throttle body.I am just guessing though.
That is a good point I never thought about the electronic throttle control however that would also cause it to stall at operating or accelerating speeds too. At idle though, where you use the least amount of fuel to run your vehicle and your vehicle is being starved for gas then it would stall much easier than when you are giving it gas to make it go. Idling is where most of my vehicles have always stalled on me and almost never during acceleration. But I think one thing we can both agree on is thatthe truck is stalling due to lack of fuel whetherit is from the fuel pump, fuel filter, a crimped line, or a faultyelectronic throttle control.
