Default Clutch Fan Removal

I know that this has been covered, and I did a search but I still have a few questions....

I have an 04 4.7 w/ AC...can I remove my clutch fan and be "OK" with no e-fan, with a 180 T-stat?? Also, should I remove only the fan (blade section) or the hole mechanism from the pulley, b/c that looks somewhat complicated. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

No, you cannot remove your mechanical fan, without replacing it with an electric fan. I have the biggest e-fan that I could find, and it keeps the engine cool, but on warm days it runs often. Why would you want to consider removing the fan completely without putting a new fan on? Try to gain HP for free? On removal of the fan, the nut for the clutch fan is a 36mm wrench. If you take it off and it will be ok without anything on the threaded part. The pulley is not held on by the fan nut.

The top part is the fan clutch. From what I've heard and read, you can't separate the fan from the clutch. If you remove the fan, you'll have to replace it with an e-fan to remove the heat from the radiator when you're in traffic. Normal airflow on the highway will provide enough cooling, but the fan has to produce that airflow in slow-moving situations. Plus, if you don't keep the fan clutch, the fan will turn all the time, robbing power. An e-fan is not a really difficult install, but a water pump pulley spanner is almost required.
