Anyone with 4X4 LOWER their truck?
ORIGINAL: shoedork
tread carefully on thistopic, when you ask about lowering a 4X4 it seems to be a mojor crime on this forum. i guess we are all supposed to have a 8-10 inch lift in our trucks and super swamp boggers. Slam it, raise it, do what you want to it I mean its yours rite. Ground force does make a nice 2/4 drop kit, which i have seen i numerous Rams and they look good.

My friends have been asking me when I'm installing my gun rack. Maybe I actually should do it so I fit in better here on the forum. lol
I know of one chevy I saw in Hot Rod Magazine that would change your mind about lowering a 4x4. HE took a 1/2 ton 4x4 lowered it enough that it lokked like a 2wd with a 2/4 drop. droped a 3/4 ton drivetrain in it and I think it was a turbo or two (maybe superchargers). Dude runs 10's and it's his daily driver. Any body who puts an 8+ lift on a truck has never done any real off roading. They may have a 1 trick pony that's good for mud but I guarantee they won't make it up many lvl 5 trails without goin belly up. Height kills for offroading, thats why God made a saws all. Just enough lift for articulation then cut, cut, cut.
I to have a 4x4 (AWD) and asked a friend of mine about lowering my truck. he said it would be easier to lift it cause of the front torsion bars and having to shorten my front drive shaft or it will go thru the transfer case. dunno if this is true but im still debating on lowering my 04 4x4 truck. I NEVER go offraoding, mudding anything like that. the only reason i use a 4x4 is cuz i go to the beach alot and get stuck in the loose sand. so all you guys with lifted trucks thats gonna hate on me cuz of my 4x4 lowered truck do so.. but keep in mind im getting better gas mileage [:'(]
well since i now have two 3g 4x4s you've sparked my interest in lowering one of them and using it as a tow mobile and jack the other so i can keep with the offroading we get to do. I think this weekend i will go the shop and see what i can fab up... ill get back to you guys.
Aren't the spindles on the 2wd and 4wd the same on the 1/2 ton? Look into a spindle drop and the rear is the easy part. I remember the GMC Cyclone being 4wd and lowered. Nothing wrong with dropping a 4wd. Good luck!

i was going to look into a spindle drop in the front... i was actually thinking about swapping to the 2wd front suspension or maybe fabbing some custom control arms and doing an airbag set up
Don't lower a 4x4 truck. You don't really have a valid argument other than it's your truck. Sure you will get better MPG by about 2 more and your truck will be easier to get in and out of, but how much MORE money did you pay to have it 4x4? not nearly as much as you think your saving. Also if you knew you would be loading unloading and had no use for 4x4 than you shouldn't have gotten it in the first place.
but its your truck
but its your truck
awd and 4x4 are almost the same. both have front drive shaft. a friend of mine has a chevy SS and they told him he couldnt lower it lower than it already is cuz of the front shaft going thru his trans case. awd 4x4 all the same to me. someone mentioned why did we get a 4x4 if we intended to drop it and not load/tow anything. as i stated before my other truck got stuck at the beach. so i got a 4x4. i never go mudding so therefore i wanna drop mine. any guys know any other good info? and not opinions.
How is it any difference than a 4X2 jacking it. Maybe he wants the 2WD look and accesabilitywith the knowing that if he gets in a bind then he still has the 4WD. It is your truck so do what you want. If a lowereddebadged 4x4 drove up that you have never seen before would you know any difference. There is not a single thing wrong with lowering a 2WD truck. It is just stereo typical thought of when you think 4x4 you think jacked. America for you. [sm=americanasmiley.gif][sm=bounceybounce.gif]
