when i drive and shut of my 2003 ram hemi i get a spark tick sound comeing from under the engine compartment even when the truck is cold dealer changed the cadyletic converter and it still is doing it sounds like a ticking bomb when i drive it can it be the gas im useing 87% tryed 89% still same thing im in canada useing esso should i try another brand been useing esso for 3 years neaver did it before any helpers on this dealer looked for codes nothing called dodge and said to the dealer it might be the metals expanding but i told thenm i start it for 1 min when it is cold and shut it off and all you hear is spark tick

 

Is it cold outside? I'll be willing to bet that the dealer is right in this one instance. Whenever I start and turn off my truck the engine does heat up and then the cold air outside makes it sound like that, I think it's coming more from your exhaust manifold though but its the same sound and it happens more when it is cold ouside than when its hot. And yes even if you start your truck for one minute something is going to heat up and have to cool down afterwards. Its normal, every truck Ive owned as well as everytruck I ve seen/heard around here sounds like that so I wouldnm't be worrying to much about it. Now on the otherhand if it does it while you are driving then you have some problems.

 

Are you talking about the sound that comes from the exhaust when the exhaust is hot and the engine is shut off? If so, thats pretty normal for any vehicle. I think your talking about the exhaust cooling down.

 

Does the ticking stop after awhile?
