06 Ram MDS
Considering that non-MDS Hemi production was never stopped (still goes into the 2500 and 3500 Ram), and that the MDS-equipped Hemi was already going into (at least) the Durango and Magnum starting in '05, I'd say all '06+ 1500Rams come with MDS.
I don't think any of the engines had MDS until 06, and I'm almost positive they didn't have it that long ago. But if your engine has MDS it means that when you're driving at a steady speed on the highway, the engine will shut down 4 cylinders to save gas, but if you need the power, all 8 of them immediately fire. Correct me if I'm wrong guys!! I've been wrong before!
the only mds engine dodge has is the hemi. it started in the durango and the magnum as said above and is now in the ram 1500. the heavy duty trucks still have non mds hemis.
From everything I've read, MDS became available in '05 and is the standard from '06 on. A couple great places to checkout are www.hemitruckclub.com/history.htm and www.allpar.com/mopar/new-mopar-hemi.html

2005 Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum R/T are the first modern, production North American vehicles to feature cylinder deactivation—the Chrysler Group Multi-Displacement System (MDS) turns off four cylinders in the 5.7-liter HEMI engine when V8 power is not needed for up to a 20% fuel savings.
2005 MDS is standard equipment with the HEMI in Jeep Grand Cherokee—the first time cylinder deactivation is offered in a sport utility vehicle.
2006 Chrysler Group is the first to offer cylinder deactivation in a pickup truck—MDS made standard equipment with the HEMI 5.7-liter engine.
2006 MDS is added to HEMI-powered Dodge Durango.
2007 There will be nearly one million vehicles on the road equipped with Chrysler Group's MDS.
2007 With the addition of MDS to HEMI-equipped Dodge Durango and Ram, MDS-equipped vehicles through the end of the 2007 model year will save more than 60 million gallons of fuel each year.
