Default Anyone find a salution for the hemi tick yet?

Hey guys , I am still getting the ticking on my 03 5.7 especialy when I step on it or crank it over. I've read plenty about it but have yet to see anyone solve the problem. Please let us know if any of you guys have gotten rid of it and let us know how. The previous threads have just gone by with no positive follow-ups. So I ask it again : What the heck is that noice and has anyone solved this problem?

One of the guys here on the forum had a 5.7 rebuilt and he said something about the clearances one the valves is what caused the tick. When they rebuilt the heads they tightened up the clearances and the tick is no more. I haven't heard anymore about it either. I've just accepted that it is something I have to live with at this point. I do knoe that if I need to rebuild mine at some point, I'm definitely going to check it out, but that is, if ever, isa long time down the road. Perhaps by then we'll be looking into a different head setup.

yea ,I also have a long way to go before my first rebuild. only 18k miles on my 03. Yes that's low miles for an 03. I baby my truck but am starting to get sick of that sound. Lets hope the guy whom did the rebuild gives us some input.

I've been monitoring this since I got my Ram. I read somwhere (here or on another forum) that Amsoil got rid of this guy's tick. So I ordered some ASL5-30 and it seemed to work. To broaden my experiment and be somewhat and cost effective I tried Amsoil XLF, Castrol premium, and Royal Purple. I just did an oil change and have the purple in right now. So far the ASL is the best with the XLF in second place, but comparable to any top grade off the shelf oil you can get. The castrol was ok and the purple, so far, is disappointing. I thought the purple would be a close second to the ASL, but the tick is quite loud. For my next oil change I think I might try the premium Mobile1. If that doesn't do the job I'm going back to the ASL.
I would also like to note that the ASL seemed to hold up the best over 3k miles.
I'm also toying with the idea of putting on a larger oil filter hoping to increase flow thus more oil flowing onto the rockers, but that may be a longshot at making much difference.

The official word from the Chrysler Technology Center is that the majority of 'Hemi Tick' is caused by an bad fit between the exhaust valve stems and the valve guide.

Shouldn't this mean a recall should be done to fix the problem.?

Problem??? That's for the courts to decide!

About like the piston slap in GM engines are not a "problem".

If you go to this web site , below you can file a complaint with Uncle Sam, and they will evaluate the problem and if enough people complain about the tick,Chrysler will have to respomd.. www.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/search/cfm

Dewalt,
I installed a Mobil1 M1-301 which is a Quart size filter on mine, I'm running the Amsoil XLF 5w-30 and while the oil did make a minor difference, the filter did not. I change my oil every 6k and filter every 3kto give you some back ground of my operating schedule.
The blurb I saw about the valve stem clearances and the guy who witnessed it(was on this forum) was several months ago and I don't recall who it was--sorry.
