Very bad day need your help!!
Today was a very bad day for me and my truck. I have thrown a rod with 52000 miles on my truck(Hemi). My question is this, I do have a couple of mods on my truck nothing internal, but Chrysler is stating that they probably won't cover the damage under my powertrain warrenty because of these mods. The one mod that I have done was reprogram my truck that I think my somewhat comes close to making this happen to my baby. Are there any takers out there that might be able to shed some ideas/light on this subject. I used the Superchips Flashpaq programmer on the computer that is currently in this truck. I look forward to your replies.
If they don't know about about the superchips, then I would return it to stock before they find out. Otherwise, they would have to prove that your mods cause you to throw a rod. BTW what rod, conrod or push? What year is your truck?
i thought your truck had internal engine mods too? anyways i dont know what to tell you other than good luck gettin your baby fixed. if you have to do it out of pocket then you might want to go ahead and get a more aggressive cam and get forged pistons and rods while your at it. might give you a little more oomph to your ride. good luck.
If they challenge you on anything that you did regarding your mods just tell them that you want it in writing which mod caused the failer and if they cant pick out which mod they think caused it and cannot prove that it did then they cant void your warranty on it. If they do claim a certain mod did it but cant prove itthen get it in writing and send it to a DC rep or call their customer support number and tell them and you should get it fixed under the warranty anyways. Its a federal law that they cant void your warranty based on adding any modification unless they can prove that the mod you installed is what caused the failer and it has to be in writing and signed by the tech who did the inspection. 9 out of 10 times they usually wont void it if you ask them to put it in writing and sign it.
Obviously Dodge is going to do anything possible to keep from paying for ANY defect that they can try to point to another source. Since the failure was a connecting rod, there are plenty of ways to determine where the failure took place. If you have a frozen piston or something like that that caused the failure then an excessive lean mixture may be an issue, however, if it was a bearing failure on either the crank or piston end, unless you have had the engine apart and they can prove that, you have all the ground to stand on that you need. Warantee work is kind of like car insurance payout. They will try to make you committ on paper to the cheap settlement. Know your rights! Dodge WILL have to cover this under warantee as long asyou have notmodified the internal function of the engine. You will probably need to go a little further up the line is all. You will get a new engine at the prorated cost deductible. Make noise and trust me, I am right.

ya i had a new tranny put in my brand new 06 with only 4k miles on it. i had no mods yet because i only had it for a month or so. the dealership had it for over a month, i had a rental the whole time which the dealership was unware they were paying for ( $40 a day ram lol) well anyways. they tried to tell me it was my fault the tranny went soo becaus eof my driving style and they were not going to pay for the fix or the rental, but i went through the BBB. and got my tranny fixed under warranty( like it should have been.. $6400)) and the rental fully paid for($1200), and they paid my months payment for me too ( $500 i knwo its alot but i love my truck) i complained to ever customer service department i coudl find in the dodge, chrysler company. they also now kiss my *** when i go to the dealership.. free oil changes, and maintenence everytime... def if they give you any trouble go through the BBB ( better business bureau) it gets thinsg done real quick..... just complain loud and make yourself heard. youll get it fixed. dont worry bro....

Thank you very much all of you for your input I am expecting a fight with Chrysler. Hopehully all will work out though in the end. I will keep everyone informed. Tommorow I am going to the dealership so I will hopefully get some pics and post them here. I have a question The dealership is stating that they need to charge me for putting my headers back on and all my other mods. Have you guy's heard that before also? Thanks
im not sure about that but it sounds like bull**** to me. they would have to put your manifolds back on anyways so its not that much different.and if you have a CAI they shouldnt charge you for that because its easier to put that back on than it is to put your stock intake system back on.
Well I have recieved very good news form Dodge today. They have stated that Dodge will pay for a new Hemi motor. So I will not need to foot the bill on this. So my bad day has turned out good. Unfortunately I won't get my sexy beast back until mid Jan. Ohh well a small price to pay for a new motor. just thought I would let everyone know. Have a happy and safe holiday season!!!
