i love my 40 series. ( i also have no resonators.) ya it is a bit loud on the highway, but you relaly do get used to it and you kind of tune it out a bit. at first iw as like wow this is crazy but now i like it.. sounds very powerful when you get on it from the red light and has a real nice rumble at idle. i think the 50 sounds real nice too same as teh 40 just tuned down a little bit. i think the 40 is for teh younger generation and the 50s for teh older guys out there that want that sound of a perforamance truck too....

Maybe I am getting a little too old also. I really want to get the rumble of the 40's, but I really think I will end up with the 50's. Thanks for everyone's opinions!!!!

I just did the American Thunder Cat back Flowmaster Kit (50 series muffler - single inlet dual outlet) on my 04 Ram with a Hemi. I took the time to MIG weld everything up and looked and fit great! Sounded Great until I got it out on the road, The resonance in the cab justSUCKED under 75MPH in OD!!! Everytime I planted the throttle -it was sweet music - butI got the "look" from my wife on the newly aquired man jewlry and she gave me the "why did you modify a new truck" speach when you have a 69 Camaro and 70 Chevelle both with obnoxious BBC's and Flowmaster dual exhast (dual 50 series) and they're still really loud... yada yada yada. Since my truck is my daily driver and a comfort vehicle for the family trips- I cut the flowmaster 50 off and welded the factory muffler back on but made a wicked y - pipe for the stock muffler outlet that is 3" to two 2.5" pipes. Resonator got 86'd. It actually has a screaming shriek at full throttle with out the cab drone. I just added the SRT-10 Hood and have opted to go forthe superchager over any more exhaust changes - The stock stuff is pretty nice at 3" all the way out. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. If you pay shipping you can have the Flowmaster 50 muffler! Nick

Installed the 50 cat-back system a few months ago. The cab resonance is awful. The wife will not ride in it. there is a teriable hum around 40mph that is so loud you can not keep a conversation. i am considering changing it but i spent a boat-load on the system allready. all in all, the sound at idle and full throtal acceleration is awsome. it's just the cab noise....

Doesn't the Flowmaster 50 system mount the muffler right under the cab? I know the stock location is under the bed. That is probably why there is cab drone. I stopped at a local muffler shop the other day, and they said they'd purchase the Flowmaster AT system and install it (full welds) for $450 total. I thought that was a hell of a deal, since the system alone is usually $375 - $400.

It actually mounts under the bed - you can see the muffler from the passenger side rear wheel well. The stock muffler is about twice as long as the 50 Flowmaster. I just checked out a wrecked SRT-10 - It has pretty clean exhaust setup from the factory. The drone is typical of every flowmaster I've ever owned.I've got two 50 series mufflers on a 500HP BBC and it's still loud.

$450 is not a bad price - but I'd find someone who has the system an get an earfull. If it had it to do over I'd buy \ spend the $400on the Superchip power program over changing out the exhaust. Nick

nvisciani is right. My50 is under the bed. If you can find someone that allready has it installed and take that ride before you buy, i think it might just save you from having it cut off in the future. also, the flowmaster is a 2 1/2" system. and the tips are only a very small 3" str8t. the only thing that looks good enough to match the sound is a FAT 4" tip. and you will have to buy those. as far as that price. installed and welded isn't bad at all. i bought mine online then talked to a shop that would custom madrel bend and weld with the tips i wanted for 560. and that was heavier gauge steel than what the flowmaster is...... Looking back, i should have done that......
