Hey,
I am new to the forum. I just bought a '03 Ram Quad Cab with the 4.7L. I was wondering if there is anything that I can doto help liven it up a little? I am not looking for big horse power gains. I see that a lot of people are installing CAI's and using the Superchip programmer. Would taking off the 20" tires and replacing them with 17" tires make much of a difference?
Any help would be welcome.

leave the factory tires, the 4.7 is kinda small for the fullsize quad cab, best gains you will see is a cam kit. but if you want 5 to 10 horse power at a clip than this is whats in my 05 4.7 dak. full k/n fipk, swapped out the 195 stat for a 180. cooler engines produce power. 3 inch single catback . i also have the 206 cams. this netted an addition 35 horse power alone. any decent programmer will do wether its hyper or superchiups. swapping out the throttle body to a larger diameter is also better. there is really not much out there for the 4.7 seems kinda strange.also check which gearing you have 3.55 or 3.92 different gears might help it to move better

 

Yeah the H.O. cams is a really good and somewhat cheap mod. It makes the best gains for the $.. I am going to be doing this mod soon. Also a programmer is a must.. Superchips is what everyone uses, you can find them cheap at www.airram.com you can find the cam there as well as AIR RAM's custom CAI kit that is proven to gain HP. Gearing is a huge deal, mine had 3.55's which were horrible in the truck, I just ordered 4.56's to replace them. A muffler swap is a good idea, and while you're there you can get rid of the resonator. There are headers for our trucks as well. People say there is not much for our trucks, but I don't know how much more you want, unless you want to get into head swapps or something....

drop in the 6.1, lower it 2/4", throw some 22's on, gibson headers/exhaust, K&N FIPK, hypertech hyperpack, tint, bed cover, roll pan, srt-10 hood, then shave it and repaint.

 

Thanks for all the help guys. I have the CAI on order as well as the Superchips programmer. I will be looking at the exhaust mod sometime early in the new year. Then once the spring comes along I am going to change out the Cams. I am looking forward to all these little projects. The finance manager is only allowing me to do one thing at a time. Hopefully by May I will have everything done. Again thaks for the help. Oh and I have the 3.92 gears in the truck. I guess you would call these the all around gears.
