Just hit the tow/haul button or the OD off - either one will dissable MDS. I have long tubes with a offroad y-pipe and a bassani exhaust and I run in tow haul for highway (retains OD - also streaches out shift points and engine breaks on deceleration) and around town I run OD off. I never hear it kick in and you can really hear it when it kicks in with my setup. I could care less about the added gas milage, I bought mine for the power, just happen to be ready to buy when they implemented MDS, LOL. Hope this helps.

the mds system is verysensetive to oil pressure, if you use the wrong weight oil, thisshould disable the system, I believe the required oil is5w20 so weather permitting use 10w30 or 10w40 or something and the system should not go into 4 cylinder mode

Under "normal" driving conditions, MDS is operational about 40% of the time. And it's true....for most people with a louder exhaust, the sound of MDS when it goes from 8 to 4 cylinders is not a good thing. Some have described it as sounding like the "fop-fop-fop-fop" that helicopter blades make. The shop who has done custom exhaust systems for me for over 10 years refused to build one for my '07...saying that every single one he had done for Ram owners with MDS had come back with the request to restore the exhaust system to stock.

I wish I could have read this post before I put duals on my truck. I cant stand the constand kicking in and out of the MDS its driving me nuts. as soon as I let off the gas it shuts off 4 cylinders. Now that I have seen some of you guys post I feel a little better, I was starting to think mine done it excessively.

I do the exact same thing now, because I just got sick of hearing it. It's not an overly bad thing, but I got irritated by it one too many times...
