Default gas spillage

This may sound stupid, but everytime i fill my tank up on my 04 quad cab 4x4 the thing overfills and comes spurting out. I get that there is a long shaft to the tank itself which makes sense why it overfills. But is there a fix that I am just not noticing? Its embarrasing for one and not all that safe to have gas come spilling out. And i hate watching and trying to figure out how many gallons will fill it. I tried watching the gauge from inside but still overflows before it tops off. But then the gauage reads correct as way past Full.

thanks
-M

My regular cab 1500 Sport does the same thing. Yeah, it only has a 1" or so diameter tube going to the tank. The first time, I got gas on my pant legs. Now, I just guess about how much gas it needs, based on the gauge reading, then move the pump nozzle to the first or second notch to finish off the last 3 or 4 gallons. It doesn't overflow if you do that, just takes longer. Maybe I'll find a way to mod it with a 2" diameter tube?

Just anotheroversight in American engineering, they don't build them like they used to.

I've never had this problem on my '04. Have you tried going to another station or using a different pump? Perhaps you have and still experience the problem. Maybe you'll need to use the slow setting on the pump nozzle when you fill up.

Just listen to how fast the fuel flows, then just slow it down towards the end.

I have not had this issue with either Ram. I think there was a post about this before and some determined it would not happen at certain gas stations, while at others it would.

Could you have a problem with the vent on your thank that isnt allowing the air to come out of the tank?

Not likely, if I am not mistaken if there is a issue with that you get a check engine light.

The only time this happens on my 06 is when I don't put the nozzle all the way down. So it doesn't bubble up quicker activating the auto stop. Or if I fill it to slow is will over flow.

I put in the pump, start it, then wedge my gas cap barely in there. When it's down it clicks and spits out the cap. Sometimes the cap gets stuck. But at least this gives me enough time to check the oil, washer fluid, tires etc...

Standing, waiting there for 90 liters to fill is boring!
