I agree with weswing.... how the heck would a sparkplug know what kinda of head it was in... the only thing that could make it foul out would be the air fuel mixture or if you didnt gap it properly... I think he was FOS.....

Travelinman and weswing04, first of all i didnt say the spark plug knew what head it was in, that was just a pointless comment, the ignition system is setup to run copper plugs. When they designed the engine thats what they used to test it. The coils put out certain power to the plugs and if there platinum they will fire more hot and could caulse misfire or complications.

After reading through these posts, I guess I better go change the factory plugs in 03' with 93,000 miles on them! I went to my ex-local mechanic to price a change out. He told me the platinum plugs installed should last 100K. I now understand the RAM 1500 ain't got no platinum plugs!

Damn, my old company truck had 130,000 miles on them before I changed the plugs out ('02 GMC Sierra). That was a company, they didn't do any upkeep on it, and really didn't need to, it was a rock solid truck for the years I drove it. I gave it a full tune-up at the 130 mark when the company gave it to me. I didn't care until it was mine, but in that particular truck, no issues with the plugs, and I always drove it with a 20' utility trailer loaded to the gills..

Now on my RAM, no way in hell I'd let it go that long before changing the plugs. 30k doesn't seem that bad to me, so I don't mind throwing coppers in there if that's what they want....

I put Champion 3570 (Platinum plug) in my Hemi and they started to misfire like mad. I had trouble starting the truck and it would sputter at idle and shut off. The plugs had fouled out in 8 months (12k miles) after installion. (And Championdon't stand behind there plugs. They claimed itwas the trucks fault that the plugs were fouled.SoNO refund for sh*ty plugs) Now I have the NGK 5306 (Copper plug) and no problems so far.
I agree about the Champion plugs -- never bought a good one. I, too, put 5306s in mine at 87K. Immediate improvement in driveability, mostly due to the fact it was 60K late for the change. The gap in the original plugs was probably .065.

Ok, here a question...In the 300 C with the 5.7, or charger, how in the heck are you ever going to change the plugs? The Hemi is wedged verry tight betwean the fenders, so my question is, what plugs are in the hemi car engines, if thier not copper, than logic would say Plat. Plugs would work in the truck engines.
On my wife's '06 300C, it looks like it'll be a breeze. All sixteen plugs are right there on top with no obstructions. Plus, no plug wires to mess with. The cars very likely have the same plugs as the trucks. just better access.

Looking at the 5.7 in the Ram, I know I can change the plugs, but the the last two on booth the left and right look tricky due to the lack of room, But with the right set of extensions, I don't see it as impossiable, question, What size are the spark plugs? ( socket )
Local stealership quoted me $400 to do ONLY the plugs. They claimed the plug cost $7.89 each. So I tackled it myself. It takes around 2 hours and minimal swearing to change all of them by yourself. Get a buddy and some beer and then it will go faster. Passenger side is easy, driver side the back two cylinders are tricky. Get a good swivel adapterand a couple short extentions and its doable. Also don't forget the anti-sieze.
I've read in many places NOT to use anti-seize. It adversely affects the torque needed to put them in. It's only 14 ft/lbs, and apparently the anti-seize provides enough lubrication to accidentally torque 'em too much. I paid $1.80 ea for my NGK 5306s and the folks I bought the truck from charged me $177 to change 'em. I may try the next set (in four years or so) myself. Apparently not hard, just aggravating. I think the socket size is 5/8"

Just got back from the LA Auto show and swapped in a set of brand new Pulstar spark plugs.....Big difference in performance and overall startup. Much cleaner...and very well worth the money
