Default Shock Problem

Hello from a first time poster. I just bought a 03 4x4 1500 laramie this past weekend. The first thing I did was check out this forum for leveling information (a very popular topic). I read in multiple places that I needed Bilstein B46-2129 shocks, so I went to Summit and purchased a pair of BSN-F4B462129HO's. I attemped to install them on my unlifted truck tonight. One went on (barely), and one bottomed out before I could get the lower bolt installed. The extended length of the new shocks is over 6 inches longer than stock. I know they will both go on after I crank the torsion bars, but I don't think there is any way they will not bottom out the first time I hit a bump. What did I do wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

P.S. - if anyone in the Cedar Rapids , IA area is looking for a 1994 f150 4x4 with 291,000 miles so you don't have to get that shiny Ram dirty in poor weather let me know.

My first thought is you must have the wrong shocks. So I googled up shocks. Went to Shockwarehouse.com.For an 03, 4x4 they list Be5-6928-H0 for front and Be5-2550-H1for the Rear. I then went to summit site and punched your part # Bsn-F4B462129h0. It came up listed for a Ram 3500 1994 to 2002.So it looks like you have the wrong shocks.

I just went back to summit to do double check?I was wondering?Your shock bsn-f4b4622129h0 is listed for a 1500 as well.
1500- 1994 to 2001,
2500-1994 to 2002,
3500-1994 to 2002,
Any ways just to clarify, I didn't want to post the wrong info.

Thanks Big Guy.....I've read that I do need these older style shocks if I'm leveling my truck. I know a lot of you guys have done this. What am I missing? Are the additional letters before and after the B46-2129 causing me problems?
Thanks,
Jason

BSN-F4B462129HO

That is the exact part number taken from my Summit invoice.

They fit my truck fine after turning the bars.

Was the difference between your shock lengths as large as what you see in the pic above? It seems to me that if I can't even put them on at stock height I'd be very close to bottoming out with it raised 2". Maybe I'll just try it.

They looked massive before I put them in and when I took the stock ones out they looked way too small. They work, that's all I know for sure.

I think the truck handles a bit tighter with them and the bars turned, which I feel is an improvement.
