p0404 code pop help
I have a 2004 ram 5.7 HEMI, bought 2 weeks ago. Just installed new k+n intake and dual flowmaster cat back. Since then truck has lost power, truck when in over drive just bogs down no throttle response at all, code p0404 came up yesterday have talked to other guys and they have no idea has something to do with EGR. Any help would be great.
i didnt look up the code but if it has something to do with the EGR valve, then most likely it is not functioning correctly. a stuck open EGR will cause bad throttle response. usually you can clean them out with some carb cleaner. but if it has stopped working completely then you might need a replacement.
P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance
My guess is that you just replaced the stock exhaust and cold-air intake unit at the same time, and tripped the computer up. You may want to try and reset the PCM, and see if it makes the code go away. It will take your truck a llittle bit of time to recognize the difference in exhaust and air intake, and adjudt it's computer to those new parts.

and to reset the PCM I disconnect the Neg from Battery right. If so I did that 3 days ago after calling K+N tech. Having the truck looked at in the morning. my gut feeling is plugged cats, what do you think??
Here's a couple of things you might check. What caused the code to come up is that the computer knows where the valve position is at all times. The computer commanded the valve to a certain position, and then expected a feedback telling it that the valve had achieved that position, based on voltage back to the computer. First, check to make sure your battery has good clean connections. Pull the connecting harness apart at the valve and make sure all the terminals are clean (male and female). If there was a heavy buildup of carbon in the valve seat, it may have prevented the valve from actually moving, it may need to be cleaned up. If all this fails, an inspection of the associated wiring harness leading away from the EGR. Once your at this point, you need to download the FSM for your truck from the sticky at the top of the 3rd gen front page that says "merry christmas" in it hemitruckclub.com I believe. Then look up the code in section 9 and continue with the diagnostics. Most likely it is something really simple---the hard part is finding it, especially if you don't have an ODB III scan tool or startack scanner ----but it can be done
Hope this helps some,
Good Luck!!!

Well heres an update, took the truck in for a diagnostic and every thing was fine. They are strongly leaning towards a tranny problem. It makes sense because it feels like it goes into overdrive to soon. I use the analogy that its like driving a manual trans and shifting from 2nd to 5th and that bogging down and knocking you here is the same thing. could be that the puter needs to be flashed and set the shift points. Anybody been in that boat???

Another Update: I took the truck in to the local dodge dealer and they couln't fiqure it out. they told me to change fuel to 91 octane, so i did, drove 173 miles today and still no change. Called them back and their reply was "deal with it, we don't know what to do to fix it", "You will have to wait till it gets worse and we might be able to fix it".
Now is this how Dodge fixes with all their problems, "DEAL WITH IT".....
