couple questions for those that have changed the clamps. Is it easier to do it from underneath or from above. and did you remove the old clamps or just put some new ones on? thanks in advance.

Looking at where my clamps are, I'd say that one would have to do the 'repair' from under the vehicle.

Yep, I just did mine and did it from below. There is plenty of room to work, but it's just so damn cold right now. If you put a new hose clamp on the reservoir make sure you hold the hose when you tighten up the clamp. Otherwise you might end up breaking the nipple off of the reservoir. It didn't happen to me, but I held it anyway cause I noticed a lot of flex when I went to tighten the clamp.

Just out of curiosity, do you guys still have a warranty on your vehicles? I ask because, if everyone took their vehicles to the dealerships, then they would see how wide spread this problem (Power Steering) is.
Then maybe they would offer a recall. But, if everyone continues to fix the problems themselves, then they won't.

brinkley, the clamps can easily be replaced from underneath in a matter of minutes...

unixfool, dont need alot of space to do the fix...all ya need is a clamp and a socket or screwdriver...when i replaced mine it was in the parking lot at wal-mart...if still have basic warranty then ya i'd do like you and take it to the dealer also

i still have powertrain warranty on my truck, butonly BTB warranty will cover an issue like this....the problem with taking it to the dealer if still under basic warranty is that the number of people taking their trucks to the dealer for such a thing would have to be in huge numbers...even if there was a couple hundred people taking their trucks to the dealer for such a problem wouldnt get anything done...and until DCX sees enough trucks in the dealers with this problem under warranty then no recall will be issued

Well, i took my truck to the dealership this afternoon, because of the ongoing problem with the power steering fluid leaking.
After a 1/2 hour, they said that it was the Power steering pump, causing the problem. Good thing it was under warranty........

I have the same problem, I just took it to Midas because my warranty is up, and they told me I needed a hole new rack! Is there anyone else that has needed a rack or is it mostly just clamps? I am not changing a hole rack if I dont have to!

Friend i feel for you. It all depends on who you talk too. I took mine in twice. First they said it was the clamps, then they said it was the PS pump.....some of the guys on here, had to replace their Rack and pinion, some under warranty, some not.
Ask around on this forum.. you'll get good suggestions from these guys....

I did mine yesterday from above. I just slid the old clamp down a bit and installed a band type clamp.
I'll have to check it again in a couple of days and see if it fixed the leak.
