Voided Warranty / Scan Tool ?
Ok, I have looked at many sites tonight about all the voided warranty hoopla when putting after market performance mods on a truck/car. Like programmers, superchips, exhaust, cold air kits, bald tires ect. ect. ect. I do not want to risk paying 6000. on work because of a voided warranty. I will risk the money for performance mods and price of a scan tool if it will clear all hard codes, any evidence what so ever that I have done anything to the truck. Anyone know who makes the scan tool for 07 trucks and where you can get them?
You dont have to worry about voiding your warranty by adding an exhaust and CAI, the programer though you have to uninstall it and reinstall the original programing (the superchips will store this information) before you take it in to get any work done to it by the dealer. Usually the dealer will flash your computer giving it any updates and checks for any codes while its in getting work and if you still have the aftermarket programing it will unistall it and replace it with the stock settings and will lock you out so you can no longer use the programer. You then have to send it back to superchips or where ever you get it from to have the programer reset so it will let you back in to your truck to program it again which costs a few hundred. Also it is illegal for any dealership to deny you warranty work unless they can prove that the aftermarket parts you put on caused the part that went bad to go bad and f they do tell them you want it in writing as to what aftermarket part caused the warranty to be voided and appeal it to the guy in charge of that particular dealership or district manager.
With a superchips tuner you can just return the pcm to stock before it goes to the dealership and you're good to go. The superchips also works as a scan tool, which is a nice feature. They are still working on the update so that the 3815 works with the 07's, so you will want to keep your eye out for that. However, on some of the diesel programmers/chips the program rewrite can reset the engine hours and idle time in the pcm. If you blow a restricted part on your cummins (turbo, injectors, and some other parts) while under warranty, the first thing chrysler will ask for is then engine hours and idle time on the pcm to confirm no chip was used before they will cover any of those parts. Just thought I would throw that heads up for the diesel members on the forum.
