Taking of 20" and putting something smaller on for winter?
My son just got a 2007 Ram 1500 4x4 with the Thunder Road Pkg. and is not 100% happy with running this 20" tires in the snow can he go down to a 17" or maybe even a 16" wheel and tire ? plus i am looking into getting a truck like his too but i will be putting a plow on it so i also would like to run a smaller winter tire , so is there something that will fit and if yes will it screw up anything with the computer or put the speedo way of ? thanks for any help !
I swapped my 20" wheels/tires for 17" wheels/tires with a member from this site and they fit no problem. I had tires with a more aggressive tread put on.
I have a set of 17's along with brand new tires I will be selling this weekend. Of course I'm in Minnesota and shipping would probably make them too expensive...these are off a brand new '06 Ram.
If you had the 275/60R20, then a 285/70R17 will be an almost exact size replacement. The speedo will be correct within .8 mph. What I did was purchase a set of 17 inch wheels from eBay that were pulled from a 2003 Ram for $300. Mounted the Toyo Open Country AT LT285/70R17 tires and was off and running. No rubbing and speedo didn't need recalibrating.
BTW, DC does NOT recommend mounting snow plows on 1500s. Only 2500, and even on them there's a special "snow plow" option that is available to strengthen the front control arms and other front suspension components. In fact, I believe mounting a plow on a 1500 will probably jepoardize your warranty should there be a resulting suspension or frame problem.

I second the plow warning. If you are looking to put a plow on a dodge, I would recommend getting the 2500 hemi with the "snow chief" plow prep package to ensure your front suspension is fine. Another member on here bought a used 2500 and had his control arms fail on him. It was not equipped with the plow prep package, but the previous owner had used a plow on it anyway (lots of variables here: plow size, weight, driver's care or recklessness while plowing). So in summary, if planning to plow, get the 2500 hemi "snow chief" package.

The dealership said that they would stand behind1500 since i was only plowing my own yard , i was thinking of trying out the 2500 but was talked out of it by the dealer , said there was more rebates etc. on the 1500 but as of now i haven't done anything , i did notice that most 2500 are cummins and i really would rather have gas since it will be a daily driver and i only live 5miles from work . right now i am driving a 2003 GMC2500HD and am not happy with it at all i am a GM person but after having this truck i am up in the air with it , pretty good on gas (most days) and not a bad ride but there has been to many small things that have gone wrong , i have always liked the looks of the dodges and i like the way my sons rides and drives .
Good luck. You should check the operator's manual. You'll see that DC does not recommend snow plow mounting on a 1500. So you'll really putting your faith in the dealer to deliver on that promise. I'm not so trusting. Also, if you examine the front-end of the 1500, you'll see it has a much different setup than 2500. From my eyeballs, I suspect most snow plow mounts for Dodge Rams are going to expect a 2500 suspension. Also, I've seen plenty of Hemi 2500's on the road and at dealerships. The diesel is only available on the 2500 and 3500, so that's why you probably saw a lot of them at the dealer
