Default rubber squeak sound from driveshaft

I own an 02' 1500 4x2 Ram. There is a squeaking sound from the frontof driveshaft, hard to locate. It looks like a new driveshaft, but universals are original. Could it be an alignment problem, worn universals or trans mount? Sound goes away over 20 mph and returns when braking. Dosen't sound lifethreating, but is extremely annoying.

Default RE: rubber squeak sound from driveshaft

My buddy as an 02' and he called me a couple days ago about his truck making a really weird and LOUD clicking noise when he accelerated. I drove over to his house, and sat in the bed as he drove slowly through the neighborhood so I could hear exactly where it was coming from. I told him it sounded like it was coming from the middle of the driveshaft, directly across from the muffler. I watched the driveshaft turn as he idle'd forward and noticed the shaft moving a little. He took it in, and found that something inside the driveshaft had come loose, and when the shaft rotated, it would throw the piece into the opposite side thus creating this really loud anoying sound. They replaced the entire drive shaft. Problem fixed.

Thanks for the reply. This is the first used truck I have purchased in a few years. The truck is good condition and is used for light duty work and towing. The dealership that I got from has a warranty (1000 miles or 1 month) so I to, get the joyous time spent raising my blood pressure.I just wanted to get a "heads up" before I have to break one off! Sorry to hear about the debacle stump_breaker had to deal with, I feel your pain. Thanks again to everyone who has given me some insite on this problem, past, present, and future.

Default Update on what the problem was?

Ghost rider, I know this problem has long since been resolved for you but my truck is having the same noise. I have noticed that the squeak disappears over 20 mph as well. Further, mine does not happen when in neutral, only Drive or Reverse.

Can you tell me what the problem was?

because in neutral the shaft spins freely, but in gear it has load on it.

I had the exact problem. I pulled the driveshaft and the ujoint was shot. So yeah, when it sounds like a rubber squeak back there it's the ujoint.
