456 gears/speedometer question.
You don't need too. Tires are what messes with the speedo, not gears. I read on another forum that the speedo sensor is further out near the brakes and all that so the speedo is not messed with by the gears. If you need to compensate for tires, then superchips is all you need.
Yup, the other two are correct...you don't need to do anything if you change gears, just if you change tires. You can get a tuner or take it to the dealership to adjust for tires size changes. What gears / tire size do you have now ? As a note, on stock 265X60X17's w/3.73 at 60mph in overdrive I was about ~1,800 RPMs....with 285X75X17's and 4.56's I'm right on 2,100 RPM's...still in a good range so it's not working hard and I absolutely love the 4.56's...I dunno why they put less than 3.92's in such big heavy trucks....???
Yeah my truck came with 3.55's and an open diff and i'm getting my auburn posi and 3.92's installed on monday. I just wanted the gears that compensate for 20's I didn't want anything lower.
Wow thats nice I don't need to worry about that. Ya right now I have the stock 20inch rims with 275/60R20 tires and 3.92 gears in the back. So do you guys know of a good place online where I canorderthe 4.56's?
I ordered mine from http://www.ring-pinion.com - they are very knowledgeable and have been featured in a few 4X4 magazines. Just be prepared with what size (i.e. 9.25, 10.5, etc.) ring gear your rig has and they'll be able to lay out all the options. One note, I'd strongly suggest you get the full master install kit for each end (if you have a 4X4 you have to do both). Also, consider having a good local shop do the job, gears are easy to screw up if you've never done them before...

Just a side note for anyone that changes their gears AND Diff at the same time. I neglected to install the tone ring for the speed/ABS sensor when I installed my axle, becuause I hada different axle, and never even thought about it, until after I removed the diff. cover from the original axle, and the speed sensor went all batty, and caused the transmission to be confused half the time, making the truck jerk into gear. Just my $.02. Oh and I bought my gears and locker from 4wheel parts for under $1000.
