wheel/tire upgrade
I have a 2005 Dodge Ram SLT quad cab, and am interesting in upgrading from the stock wheels and tires that are currently on it. I am interested in putting 18" rims on it, but am unsure as to what size tires I can add as well without installing a lift kit. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Assuming it's 4x4, in my opinion the biggest tires without headaches are 285/65R20, which in an 18 inch format would be 285/75R18. (or about 35" by 11"). In general, it seems that 35s as a diameter are fine on Ram's, it's the width that will get you.
I went with 325/60R20s and was told "they will fit" and guess what..."they did not fit"
Ended up with a leveling kit up front, and more importantly, different wheels with just the right backspacing to avoid hitting the upper A-frame. Proved to be quite the ordeal, but once I saw those tires mounted I had to have them...
I'm no expert in this area, so someone may correct me, that's just been my experience.

It is a 4x4, but just wanted to say thanks for your help with this. Currently overseas, so shopping the traditional way is kind of out of the question for me at the moment, so I am trying to get things in line for when I get back to the States. Thanks again.
