Default 30,000 Mile Service Question

So I picked up a 2005 Laramie QC 5.7L with 30,000 miles a few weeks ago. This is actually the second of this model that I've owned. I loved the first one so much that after a two year stint with a BMW 330Ci I had to go back to the truck.

Anyway, sincethis truck pre-owned I have no guarantees regarding it's prior service history. SoI'd like to get it serviced, and its due for the 30,000 mi service. So I call a local dealership and they quote me $878 for this service. This would include Oil change, diff fluid change, tire rotation and alignment, a fuel injector cleaning, and new plugs.

So the obvious question is $878?????? Does that price seem ridiculous to anyone else? Are all of these items necessary?

I just called my dealer here in MI...

$475

includes:
tune up
trans flush
rotate tires
air filter replacement
lube
scan all sensors
oil change
spark plugs

You should not have to have the diff fluids changed just yet.... they should be synthetic

well, if your a decent wrench then you can do some fo this yourself at home. the tune-up and air filter replacement you can do yourself and that will save ya about 2 hrs labor, depending if they book the plugs and wires seperate or not. and the air filter takes a matter of about 30 seconds to replace. hell and really, you could do the tire rotation yourself too if ya got the tools.

$878 is way outrageous for a 30K service, when i was working at the dealership last fall a 30K service was $325 so i'd say they tryin to screw ya

I believe my 30,000 mile service was about $600 bucks. Have them break down the individal items and pick and choose which ones you want. My service guy did this for me and saved money. Your looking about $350 bucks for the plug change and then another $129 for the rear diff. Plus I had the injectors cleaned and a tranny service. I will have to find my bill and list all the things for you.

Well we charge $27.99 for the oil change, Diff fluid synthetic is $45 a differential, Tire rotation $14, alignment (cost $45 out sourced), fuel injector cleaner $60. I work at Victory Lane quick lube. The mechanic down the street at Mel's Auto Clinic would charge $95 for spark plugs installed.

All good info, thanks. Just proves that dealerships are crooks when it comes to service. I have a local service guy (non-dealership) that I've spoken with. I've given him the list of items that I'd like done, which is basically everything but the tranny service, fuel injector cleaning, and new air filter and he's quoted me $400. This seems far more reasonable.
