im not sure if this has been touched on before but i will try my best to descibe it. i got on the free way and got stuck between two semis after letting traffic get by i got on the truck kind of hard and passed thesemi in front of me after passing it the truck was acting like the o/d off button was pushed but it wasnt, got home and decided to take it to a buddy i know who owns a trans shop and see why it had done this or it was something i had done when i took it to him it drove fine ,only about a mile from home but truck was up to temp so not a cold thing,he hooked a scanner to the truck and we went for a drive i told him exactly what i did , he tryed to see if it would throw a code or something no it drove great when we got back to the shop he told me to drive till monday and if it does it again let him know. that was friday, on saturday on my way to work it did it again stopped to get gas and i was pissed after getting gas the truck drove fine the rest of the way to work. today i went to work and have come now driving both ways no problems what so ever, its like its stuck it second gear and wont go any higher until the truck has been shut off, it a 2003 hemi ram with 5 speed auto trans. i need some advise as what to do and what will happen to it if nothing is done

I know with my tranny until the tranny fluid temp gets to 160 degrees(not engine temp) it will not shift into overdrive. This is a safety precaution so as to not screw up your tranny. This is the reason that after a while of driving it operates normally. Hope this helps

thats whats so weird is it does this when its warmed up at 65 mph the tach is about 3200 rpms i figured thats second gear it only has 53000 miles on it never had any type problems before and its only once in a while unfortunly i got a snomobile trip coming up on thursday and i need my truck to pull my two place trailer+one in the bed thanks for the info scootr.

Wow, 3200 rpmsseems a bit high for 65 mph even if the safety guard is in place. With no idiot lights on it won't give you a code...I'd have a tranny shop check it out just for piece of mind.

thats prolly whats going to happen on monday hes closed today. i'll have him go through it and see if he comes up with anything. in any case the fluid will be changed earlyer than usual but still dont like the idea of going 5 hours away from home with it doing this was hoping somebody have some info so i could get this taken care of.

you mean when you get on the freeway yours does this too, 70 mph has got to be 3500 rpms mine has never done this till now but if you guys think its natural for it to do it maybe im overreacting, normally at 70 the tach would be 1800 rpms.
