need new sound system whats most bang for buck!
I have a 2005 dodge Ram 4 door. I am looking to upgrade my sound system with some of my tax return money. My first question is, what size are the speakers in this model of truck. Crutchfield said that there are 6x9 door speakers in the front (but they look round in the casing). I plan on not installing anything myself, but want to shop around so I can sleep at night knowing I did my research. I have the 4 speaker set up but see that there are spots on the dash for others (the 7 speaker that I opted out of because I knew I would get a hair in my *** and want to change it) Please I know that there are plenty of posts out there stating what each of you have, But I would like some custom advise to get some great sound, instead of the crap it plays. Also I am only looking to spend about 400 dollars. I have two 10" MTX 5500 series in a box right now and a 800w amp to push them from my old ranger from a few years ago. So do they make a box to fit them in this truck, or is there a way to use them with keeping my back seat, cuz Iver got kids to ride!!!!
thanks
thanks

They are 6x9s in the front doors, and 6.5 inch round in the rear doors. There are tweeter locations in the dash (those spots that you see are).
JL Audio makes a pre-fabricated box for under the rear seat for this model. I went with this one. It is a perfect fit. However, that alone will suck up your $400 budget.
Unfortunately, this stuff is pretty well expensive. Here's what I might do for $400:
- add a single sub in the rear to get good sub bass
- amp to push that sub
- crossovers to tune the factory speakers better (less bass, let your sub handle that)
- You'll need to reserve some money for necessary wiring up to the factory deck (converters, etc.)
Basically, that setup should relieve a lot of the "crappy" sound you get right now from the factory 4-way system.
As FYI, here's what I did:
-JL Audio sub box with 10w3 sub
-2 Alpine 6.5" component setups, main cone in front door, tweeters in the dash locations
-2 Alpine Type R 6.5" in the rear doors
-1 Alpine 2-way to power the subwoofer
-1 Alpine 4-way to power the Type Rs and Components
-All 4 doors sound-deadened (I think the stuff is called Dynamax)
-I have the Mopar nav/sat/cd head, so a variety of electronics was required to hook everything up properly
Grand Total, installed/taxes/etc: $2,013
Now, I didn't lift a finger for this, BUT a lot of this (especially the speakers and sound-deadening material) can easily be installed by yourself if you have only mediocre skills (like me), if you have more skills, you could save a lot by doing it yourself. I paid almost $300 in shop time for this install, about $1700 in parts/materials.
The sub box is under the right back seat as designed. One amp under the drivers seat, the other under the passenger seat.

Thanks for the input guys, I know that this was a repost from hell! But I was hoping for some new input like you have posted. There are new guys joining the sight daily soI feel a repost is kind of good (unless you already know it all like some out there haha) I have a pair of MTX 5500 10" but the mtx custom box will only hold 4500 10". Is there a box out there with the correct airspace to hold these speakers or am I going have to buy new. I hate to try and sell these things they are like brand new!!!
