02 ram 1500 brake QUESTION NEED HELP
I have a 02 quad cab 1500 4x4 4.7l
I just put rotors and pads on 3 weeks ago (front)
I keep getting this whistle noise ? maybe a squeal but to me sounds more like a whistle
used disc brake hush antiseize and cleaned up all the parts before reasembly
cleaned the rotors and scuffed the new pads as well
raybestos rotors and wagner thermo quiet semi met pads
what the hell is making this noise?
doesnt happen all the time, mostly when braking from 30-35 down to a stop or near a stop
with light to med pedal pressure but doesnt do it all the time its like a ghost noise
I drove it all day yesterday and it did not do it at all
but today it did it alot very unpredictable as to when it will but most of today

RE: 02 ram 1500 brake QUESTION NEED HELP
I just changed my pads and rotors last week. I went to ceramic pads, as I thought it would stop the annoying squeal. Unfortunately, it's still there with brand new pads and rotors. I lubed everything that I thought could possibly cause the squealing, to no avail.
I read elsewhere that this truck is notorious for that problem, and it can't be overcome. If you can figure out a way to stop it let me know. I have just decided that I will have to live with it.
I also thought that if I had the money to throw at it, I would get the drill slotted rotors and see if that helped. But I'm not gonna buy 'em just for that....

RE: 02 ram 1500 brake QUESTION NEED HELP
I had the semi metallic pads on, and it squealed 90% of the time. I figured the pads were gone, so I bought new rotor and pads. ( I always change 'em both at the same time, cause rotors are cheap these days - $24 bucks ea rotor, pads -$37.00).
I was astonished to find that the pads were half gone. I figured I'd change 'em anyway, since I'd gone this far....
Now I still have the squeak - but it's when I am lightly pressing the brake, rolling to a stop. If I step on it a little harder, it goes away. If I step on it a little lighter it goes away. Seems like it only does it when the brakes have warmed up after driving for 15 min or so. Then it does it on and off all day.
(I average 200 or so miles a day.) I know that this provides no help, but just letting you know I sympathize with ya...
