Default 4:10 or 3:73 rear end

Going to be ordering my 07 2500 4x4 QC with the six speed stick and the hemi. Just want to know if anyone out there has the same set up and what rear they went with. There is about 2000lbs difference in towing wieght but not sure of the gas mileage difference and no dealers near me have one to test drive. Its even hard to find a cummins with the stick to test drive.

As you can see in my Sig, I have the setup you are talking about.
I like the 3.73's in mine. I plan later to increase my tire size to 33's.
as it is stock, first is truly a synchronized first gear, and as yet, I've had no use for it, it's just too low-as in granny. With the 33's however, it will be a much better match. I currenly have the stock off-road option 265's. And they are entirely workable until I need new tires. The great thing about a stick----you get to choose what gear you want to be in-------AND NO TORQUE MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!

thanks for the info. I do alot of towing long distances on the highway and wanted to make sure the 3:73 was not to high of a rear. the 1500 I have has the 3:92 rear and the 5 speed auto and shifts constantly and at 70 its turning about 2300rpms.

06 reg cab 2500 4x4 SLT...I have the 373 ltd slip and 5.7 and six speed...265 70 17 BFG RT .The 410 might incrase your RPM's by 300 at 60 Mph, My truck is 2000 Rpm in 6th at 60 mph.... I would get the 410 with the 5.9, but if your staying with gas power, the 373 is better, Desiel engines idle lower and can take advantage of the 410 better than a gaser...

Get 4.10's!

You have plenty of RPM's to use and if you are gonna tow, you'll apreciate it. It only raises your RPM's about 200-250 at highway speeds.

4.10's! I have 3.92 in my 05 Hemi, I could not imagine going smaller, so 3.73's would be a big no in my book.

Exactly, that's why I suggest the 4.10's. With the Cummins, you are pretty limited in the RPM range, but with the Hemi, you have plenty to work with and the TQ peak is much higher in the RPM range. 3.73's for a Cummins is great unless you ar etowing real heavy, real often. But for a Hemi, I'd want to run it a little higher.

Just keep in mind that low RPM's do not necessarilly equate to good fuel mileage in a gasser. You can be turning 1000 RPM's, but if you have your fooot buried to maintain that speed, you are still dumping fuel, just not getting the movement.

When I had my V10, I went from 3.73's on 33's, to 4.56's on 36's and actually got BETTER mileage as I was more into the meat of the Tq curve.

Find a TQ/HP chart and see where the Tq curve starts to flatten out and this is where you want to run on the highway.

Thanks for the info. I only tow a atv/snowmobile trailer that wieghs in at about 3500# loaded. Just want to be able to leave the truck in 6th and not have to hear it shifting constantly like my 1500

Got a question fella's. What's the deal with the gearings? Somebody on one of the other posts mentioned 3.92 gears.
Why is this important? how does it effect the vehicles operation?
