reverse problems....
Does anyone kno whats goin on here. I live in cleveland and the past month or so its been cold really cold and when i get ready to go to work i start my truck and wait a minute to warm up. I put it in reverse and start to back up.....well 10 feet or so it stops.(like if you pull in a parking spot and hit the cement block.....) it dont do it every day.....i cant figure it out...it only does it in reverse. when i get to work i back into my parking space and it is fine. please if anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be great. thanks

Start my truck up and put it in reverse and nothing happens for 10-15 seconds, then it pops into reverse.
Also, front end is very noisy when temps dip below 30...which has been for about a month now.
Took it in last year and the mechanic said he poked a hole in the balljoint boots and shot grease in there...I tried doing that too but it didn't work. Why don't they put grease fittings on anymore?
As far as the tranny issue, have you tried letting the truck warm up a bit longer?
I've been told that they need to "pump up" a bit longer when it's cold.

What year truck is it? I have an 07 HEMI 4x4, and mine will actually shut off in reverse.... I have talked to someone at corporate over the weekend and I guess he is looking into it
It's been cold here too. I always let the truck warm up for about 10-15 minutes, and haven't had any issues. Its normal for tranmissions to shift funny when they are cold, until the fluid warms up. Try and let the truck warm up until the air coming through the vents feels warm. On the other hand, this might take you longer, because I have an electric fan on my truck, and its warm within 5-10 minutes of idling.
As far as the ball joints, mine has 33000 miles and the uppers are shot. I'm going to replace them this spring after it warms up, and before they go on, I'm tapping a hole for a grease fitting. The lower ball joints i haven't decided on how to do that yet.

Seems odd that the ball joints would be bad already doesn't it?
To think I switched over to Dodge because my Ford had so many front end problems.

thanks for the reply on my problem....10-15 mins geeze ill use 1/4 tank of gas lol...but ya im sure it would be ok if i tryed that.i ran into a "heres your sign" problem on my way to work. heres what happend. today is thursday, the first day this week the freeway was fully plowed since sunday, i actually got to do 60!!!! wooo hooo but any way my rear end was shaking all over the place when i hit 60 65 i was like holy **** i blew a belt on my back tire..it was bad, well i got to a gas station and checked it out here it was a **** load of ice and snow on the inside lip of my rim.....well i felt like a retard and like i said befor i was waiting for bill engvall to come up behind and say here's your sign!!!

try warming the truck in neutral,this allows fluid to get pumped through the tranny faster than if it were in park. When its as cold as it is,A tranny wont want to work untill fluid is warm.The fluid is like motor oil,thicker when cold,so let it warm up a bit.

My sister had some shaking problems in her car and I used your "sign" and told her that it could be snow on the rim. Might be a missing weight too.
